You don't have to switch it. Try Wubi out for a test run. It doesn't require you to partition your hard drive as it installs through windows. When you start your machine, it will ask you which OS you would like to boot. Then if you don't like it, you can uninstall it.

P.S. For those linux users out there, if you love eye candy, install beryl! 8)

That's why Linux is better. plus depending on the distro, you can get in excess of 5000 free programs ready to install, it only requires and internet conection. Software is much more secure, security updates come out more often than windows, and It rarely crashes and most of the time a few days later the crash will be gone. Linux fixes it self. It also renders 3D better, here are the statistics on Planet Pengiun Racer:

Both same Computer seperate hardrives.

Windows XP with Nvidia: 640x480 32bit 12-15fps

Debian Linux with Nvidia: 1280x1024 32bit 30-35fps

You don't have to know much about computers to know that there is a large difference. I don't know but that game ran muh smoother in linux. I can do a lot of 3D in Linux that I can't in windos. I think it is the xgl that helps a lot.

i just got finished trying out ubuntu on my dads laptop. it takes quite a while to install and initialize but it becomes VERY nice at the end. Ubuntu would run a lot better on my dads laptop had it had lots more HD space (i only had 4, optimal is 8 ). I definitely plan on installing it on my desktop computer back in Texas.

I used Wubi for the install. BTW, i know Wubi is for trying out Ubuntu, but can i just keep it and use it from now on?

If you want to install Ubuntu and its your first time installing any OS, be very patient....just let the installer run and go watch t.v., i learned that the hard way

How do you get PDN to run on Ubuntu?

I finally realized what the problem was with my Ubuntu PC. The motherboard. THe MB was what made me change to this (new) computer. At the time the Hard Drive on it died, I was experiencing random crashes that lowered the frame rate and CPU usage to a crawl. It was just last night that I realized how that problem connects to my current one. So now that I know that, I may sometime buy a new Intel MB and a cheap Q6400 Quad-Core (which will also make me get more memory and later, Windows Vista).

There's something I've noticed. When I used to hear about Linux-related things, normally there's a picture of Tux that goes with it. Now that I have 3 Linux Distros, all I see are Debian, GNU, and other miscellaneous logos-- never the penguin, Tux. I can't even find a picture of him in Ubuntu!

Also, right now I'm downloading SLAX for my 1GB flash drive.

EDIT: BTW, http://code.google.com/p/paint-mono/

Wubi is not just for trying ubuntu out, thats just the route I went and then decided to do a full install. Wubi is just an easier way for a person to install the distro. I know there was a port for PdN on linux, but I believe it was an older version. PdN is the only reason I haven't made the switch completely to ubuntu.

A live cd is also a nice way of trying out Linux without installing the real thing.

Here is a few: http://www.livecdlist.com/

Sounds a bit like what I have. A bootable linux CD no installing required.

I call it "mini linux" or "linux light". You can only really use it for fixing problems and hacking etc. but it gives you a nice idea of what basic linux is like.

Thats Probably it because its Ubuntu, unfortunately I don't have a label for the CD and I don't really use it  The last time I really used Linux was Red Hat 6.0 that came with a Linux 3rd edition (circa '99) so I'm a tad behind the times
