Must Have Done Something Right-Relient K

Check out the video:

Yeah for clean music!

EDIT: Check out my Relient K User Bar! The background color matches his dyed hair!

I LOVE rK. One of the best bands ever.

Anberlin is better, though. :-)

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Stuff you all, with this music played after the late 80s. Music died at the same time as Freddie Mercury. Most of the music produced is entirely homogenized pop or indie, where one band is entirely indistinguishable from another. It's either that or just plain ©rap, or talentless screamo. Nowadays, image is more important than talent in this woeful world of music controlled by EMI, who fail to distinguish between music that sells and music that is truly good. Indie, in the 80s when it was conceived had the right idea, but now it is just another failed genre. There is no good modern music.

Oh, BTW, This Song Is Over

The Who

Who's next

Brilliant band, brilliant song, brilliant lyrics, brilliant singer, brilliant all round song! Now buy the album! GO!

500th post!

Music is far too strong to die. It's just struggling up a tough hill right now.

QFT, emphasis on "most."

Corporations are the "tough hill" of which I speak.

There is no good modern music.

Disagreed. Not much, but it's there if you look.

@ David: I may have been a bit heavy-handed by saying that music died, and that there is no good modern music, but unless you dig deep, for me, all modern (post-late 80s) music that gets to me just seems to get worse and worse. Roll on creativity!

EDIT: Has anyone noticed how Indie is an abbreviation of "independent", but it is one of the least independent types of music being produced. It has essentially become standardized to a degree that it now is representative of modern "rock". And that indie record labels set up to promote "independence" have become as big and sales-driven as traditional bastions of smothering conformity such as EMI. Pure hypocrisy.

Let's see, good post mid 80's music...

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones

Gorilaz

Prodigy

No Doubt (ther early ska stuff is good, I'm less fond of their more recent stuff)

Reel Big Fish

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Flogging Molly

7 for 4

Hayseed Dixie

Imogen Heap

Jamiroquai

Dream Theater

The Liquid Tension Experiment

Jurassic 5

The Roots

The Mad Caddies

Primus

R.E.M

Rage Against The Machine

Transatlantic

I've covered most genres of music there, google & you shall learn. :)

BTW, I generally agree about modern music being rubbish, but there is some good stuff out there, you just need to dig a little.

Son, someday you will make a girl happy for a short period of time. Then she'll leave you & be with men that are ten times

I'm not saying all music post 80s is entirely dreadful, I'm saying that commercial music has gone downhill sharply since the 80s. The music you described can be viewed as the top of that slope, with the 0sies hopefully at the end of the slope (please Gawd).

It's nearly impossible to claim that modern bands have not been creative. To follow up the gods of the early ages ["pre-80's" rock], bands must both draw from the creative energies of their predecessors and also invent new, unique forms of music. Take Beck, for example. He took all of the most annoying noises in the universe and molded them into very catchy and creative songs. Rappers too, are creative, though as of late, they seem to be drifting into one-liners with a beat attached. I can't say I like rap, but there are some good ones that substitute music with their amazing vocals. Granted, they don't sing, but they can keep a rhythm going with their voices alone.

I don't really have time right now to make a good argument, sorry. I'll be back later with much info!

Yes, it's the "as of late" I object to. As of late, to my mind, music seems to sacrifice creativity for high sales, relying on the same formulaic formulae over and over again.

It is true that music played on the radios and "MTV" and such are there only for the profit. The internet seems to be the only way to access the classic garage bands with new and awesome ideas. But those people will never get noticed if you do not give them a chance. Music is an art best viewed with an open mind [yes I know, ripped quote with alterations, I don't know the original quote].

Don't reject all bands because they are not more like the older bands. Music is evolving, and it may be having a slow period, but someone somewhere will be able to revive it, we just need to be patient.

It's funny isn't it. People of today looking back to older bands, saying all of today's is garbage. It reminds me of when rock was first born... Devil music, complete rubbish, talentless, loud, unruly, etc. If people of that time had not accepted the new experimental type of music, we would not have great bands such as the Doors, which was just a garage band to start with.

The Tragic Treasury by The Gothic Archies (STILL)

same here, obviously!

Oops forgot to add credit to you.

Although, technically, if you never introduced this to me, you'd never have downloaded it and you probably would be listening to it on YouTube instead of WMP.
