There was that plotline in The Time Machine where the guy tried going back to stop his girlfriend from dying, but every time he tried something else ended up killing her.

Eventual Causality - The event of her death was what lead him to make the time machine, which allowed him to go back in time, so if he changed the event he would never have had cause to create the time machine in the first place, so he would never go back in time to stop it, and since he was there he couldn't change the event because the cause now also existed in that time frame and....

Temporal theory is tiring.

if you go back in time and kill him, then, in my opinion, a separate universe would be created when you went back, so anything that is changed happens to the offshoot, but not the original

Precisely the point that there are an infinite amount of alternate realities which consists of every solution to every decision made in the entire Universe. So yes, that is viable. However, if there is some 'governing body' by which prevents you from changing the past wouldn't that suggest only one Universe? This would also shatter the possibility of alternate realities. Also, the line from the article which says:

Clearly, the present never is changed by mischievous time-travellers: people don't suddenly fade into the ether because a rerun of events has prevented their births - that much is obvious.

...the question I have about this is would we know, is it really that clear that the present could never be changed because no-one has faded away? If the present was changed, so was all the events leading up to that point, therefore we wouldn't notice any difference because everything would seem normal. But, if everything seemed normal from killing my Grand-father as nothing existed from his point in time (i.e. no me ect.) then that would suggest alternate realities because I would have had to kill him for nothing to exists later on, but not so for me to have gone back in time in the first place. If the Grand-father Paradox is true then so would alternate realities which would blow out this new model that nothing can be changed.

Yes and no. You do exist in one reality and you'll still be in the same one when you travel back in time. Time travel doesn't mean reality travel. By killing your Grand-father you have created a new reality where you don't exist, but there will always be the reality whereby you didn't kill him and you still exist.

At every decision, at every fork in the road a new reality will be created where you took the action of the other option; you kill your Grand-father, you don't kill him etc..

On one hand, he might either look at this as an interesting and intellectual conversation piece and join in with his views on the matter, or he'll ignore it and dismiss this as something trivial and not worth his attention. Or, alternatively, he'll combine both and come out with a short answer that is relevant but not totally dedicated to the topic as it would be the polite thing to do and not upset any of the participants of the conversation.

On the other hand, I have no idea what pyrochild will say/think.

I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, too!*

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Mmmm...broiled Toyota with some chopped Yugo on the side, and maybe a drizzling of GMC sauce...some Pugeot or Mercedes for dessert...sounds delicious. A meal worthy of Optimus Prime :-)
