Green Ninja
I am new to paint.net and all the tools, havent used any of them before. My question is, is there a way to make your text have different colors? For example What If I wanted every other letter to be a different shade of Green in my name: Green Ninja ??????? Help would be great, sorry for being such a noob. Green Ninja

Ash
hmm....short answer: Type your letters, use magic wand to select them, pick 1st color drakest green, 2nd color lightest green. Use gradient :LinearGradient: from side to side. Hope this helps. david.atwell
thank you :-) and Ash has beaten me to it. His answer will probably help you pretty well. Just make sure your letters are alone on their own layer. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. usedHONDA
No! Don't do that! It'll only lead to bad antialiasing! This is what I do: Type black text in an image with a white background Save as "mask.png" or something Download thisplugin, place it in your effects folder and restart Paint.NET Open mask.png Add a new layer Set layer blending to additive Make a gradient in that layer Adjust until it's in the position you want If I remember correctly, you should be looking at text filled in with a gradient Now set the layer blending back to normal (optionally, you can delete the layer below) Go to the effects menu, then choose the Alpha Mask Import Plugin Browse for and double-click on "mask.png" You may need to invert the mask. Viola-- flawless gradient text. barkbark00
Uh's suggestion is good if you have to have a gradient fade. To just make each letter a different solid color I do the following. I write my text on its own layer using a single basic color(you mentioned green). Then I use the lasso tool to select each letter, one at a time, and use Hue/Saturation adjustments(Go to Adjustments > Hue/Saturation) to make my changes... Hue/Saturation lets you control the color, intensity and brightness all in one spot...
