depriest
Paint.NET version is 3.08.2708.22795 I ran pdn, exited it. I ran it again, actually editing a picture, then exited it. I tried to run it again and it never came all the way up, just ate all my spare CPU cycles (it was using 85% - 90%). I tried to kill it with Process Explorer (sysinternals) and immediately got a BSoD. It was: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT STOP: 0x0000004E (0x00000099, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Windows claimed it was doing a memory dump on the BSoD, but I haven't found the file yet. After my system came back up pdn runs fine. Here is the psinfo data from my system with the PII removed. Rick Brewster
Paint.NET can't cause a BSOD. Only kernel-mode software, such as drivers, can do that. Either from a bug, or from hardware failure (such as bad memory). In any case this is not a Paint.NET issue. http://www.osronline.com/article.cfm?article=334 This bugcheck usually occurs for one of two reasons, the first reason being memory corruption. depriest
Thanks for the extremely fast reply and for the link that explains what causes that BSoD. I still don't know what crashed my system. I guess something else was trying to work in Paint.NET's memory space at the same time as Paint.NET and when I killed the Paint.NET app, it deallocated all the memory it thought it should have been using even that bit that something else decided to use, hence my system panicked. Right? Whatever it is, it is not on you at all. Thanks. -Jason
HITMAN-X-
your using .NET Framework 1.1 ? Try using 2.0 or higher Quote DEXTUT.COM
Rick Brewster
... I guess something else was trying to work in Paint.NET's memory space ... Actually the error is pointing at kernel mode and its private memory space -- my first and easiest guess would be that your memory is going bad. To confirm you can run a memory diagnostic utility of some kind.
