Mint
Hi! I'm new, and I've been using Paint.Net for a lot of my graphical needs (I modify open source games, make websites, and other stuff). This time, I'm at a roadblock in a project I've been working on, because I need a flag-wave effect for a flat image. I've tried a bunch of ideas to try to simulate it (because I have to slowly animate each frame of it I actually draw), but I haven't gotten anything. Can anyone help me in any way? Example: My Avatar Edit: And yes, I used Search (Search) to try to find what I was looking for, and went page to page in the Tutorials forum, but still couldn't find what I needed. =|
oma
this one won't work for your application? http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewt ... 2340#32340 Quote My Deviant Art Gallery Oma's Paint.Net gallery
Mint
Sadly, no. It won't, because I need to be able to make individual waves with which to animate with, similar to my avatar.
Ash
Does it have to be anime-gif? Quote All creations Ash + Paint.NET [ Googlepage | deviantArt | Club PDN | PDN Fan ]
Mint
Well, no. I will actually animate it a different way (long story, I just need to make individual frames, instead of just animating it as a gif).
Ash
You can give Jitter a try. The plugin only can do Side to side, but not top to bottom. So you will have to rotate each frame when done. Set width to a higher value. and adjust the Distance for each frame. Thats the only way I can think of looking at you Avatar. Hope this helps. Mint
Sadly, it didn't work. I tried another plugin (Waves) and it still didn't work well enough (close, but I couldn't create a smooth animation from it).
Ash
:? Maybe you post a few frame of what you need to do, so we can see it, and maybe easier to help you. Did you try to re-seed using Jitter plugin? And from looking at your Avatar, the flag only have each section moving up and down to give the look of waving... Is the up and down what you wanna do? or another look? Mint
Okay, I need something like this: (Simple Xor I know) Except able to duplicate the effect, and create a smooth animation. When I try duplicating the effect (either applying the same effect again, or just setting the waves further), it won't become smooth. Ash
Looking at your image, I would use code lab's warp. http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1096 EDIT: I PM-ed the DLL to you if you don't wanna mess around with codelabs. oma
did you try that tut where they slice the pictures think it was making cars smaller. make your image size larger slice up the flag, into your sections move one section up one down and then reverse those moves? Mint
I already tried that one, and I was specifically pointing out that, that isn't the effect I want.
MadJik
Not easy but you could try with the tube effect: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=4104 1. Select left-half the picture and apply a vertical tube effect +10. 2. Select right-half the picture and apply a vertical tube effect -10. 3. go on and change the value... Mint
I tried it, and it doesn't work properly, and now it seems nothing is going to work. I'll keep trying and messing around, but I'm not sure I can get what I'm looking for. Thanks for the help (everyone), though.

Mint
Oh wait, how do I use a random seed? Also..., what is a random seed? x_x
barkbark00
Just play with the value. It will change the effect without changing the intensity of the effect. Quote Take responsibility for your own intelligence. -Rick Brewster
Mint
Okay, I'll try, but my effect doesn't have a seed value. What should I do about that? The only values I can toggle is the X effect, Y effect, and the radius.
