Rick Brewster
Wow, gee, thanks. The reason that we require .NET 1.1 is answered in the FAQ, http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=489 . Please make sure you read that. The updater detected that you did not have .NET 1.1 installed, and so it downloaded the "full" installer that comes with .NET 1.1. This mechanism is mostly in place for the v2.6 upgrade that will require .NET 2.0. Our installer has never allowed you to install Paint.NET w/o having .NET 1.1 present. It is possible to install .NET 1.1, then Paint.NET, then .NET 2.0, and then remove .NET 1.1 and then still run Paint.NET. We do not support this at all, but I figured if a user was willing to go this far then there was no reason to stop them from running Paint.NET in an unsupported and completely untested environment. I figured the installation requirement was enough. You can have both versions of the framework installed, and if you have a another app that requires .NET 2.0 then we suggest that you keep both of them installed on your system. Otherwise I can't make any claims as to the stability, reliability, or data integrity of working with Paint.NET v2.5 with .NET 2.0. Our v2.6 release, scheduled for mid-January, will be fully based on .NET 2.0.
