shiny or glassy background

I'd like to make a shiny or glassy looking background but can't seem to get the effect I would like. I've tried applying the tuts on glass orbs, glass buttons and glass letters , etc. but the outcome is not the same.I'd like to use two or more colors if possible. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Show us a picture of what you want to accomplish.

Show us a picture of something you've done, but don't like.

I don't know enough about this to post a pic. I guess I'm too inexperienced with this to know how to ask. The closest I can come to an example is the sig for "cornipsus", but with just the colored background and the glassy look...no stars, no letters, no shapes. Does this make any sense?
