Oh Pixey, that is terrible. By deductible do you mean the excess you had to pay? 

Here I was having a cow over the $600 vet bill for the 2 dogs for annual vaccinations.

Hi @barbieq25 and @welshblue The $2,500 deductible cannot be reclaimed, it's how our insurance works and, unfortunately, there is no one owner who caused this.  It's just life living in an older building and you-know-what happens.  Luckily the insurance will cover the replacement of everything 👍

 

Also, turns out there was nothing wrong with the cat, her problem was put down to the stress of all the workers in here and the noise.  In cats this is manifested by getting cystitis.  If it had been any other day she got sick, we would not have had to go to the emergency clinic.  They charged 4 times what our ordinary vet charges 😬

 

@welshblue The best advice when you can't find something, is to go back to where you originally thought it was.  This has often worked for me 😁

Why is it making a interactive filter takes so much more time to code than a regular code regardless of programming/scripting language? Like, a small feature requires taking in several different conditions, and you need to factor into those. Geez.

Chillies are evil! Try rubbing oil onto your hands & then washing the oil off. Even with food-grade gloves, they are evil things.

What kind of chilis did you use? Also, you may need to rinse your eyes with some white milk; the fats in the  milk counteract the capcaicin in the peppers.

Once or twice a month my computer gets infected with a terrible virus!

Laptop stops responding, programs (including Pdn) crash, extreme delays in mouse input, task manager takes an age to open.
Then I remember... MS updates!😢
Why can't MS revert to the previous system of showing a prominent icon in the taskbar letting me know that updates are available?
I could then stop and update... No, MS think it's more fun to try to install updates whilst crashing most running programs and doesn't give me a choice!🤪

I don't want to stop or pause updates. I'd just like a little clue before update begin. Please just warn me before downloading updates and hogging all the RAM (supposedly 'in the background'?).

Stuxnet and more recent attacks are not surprising given the sloppy thinking in California - T.H.C. ? (no cannabis icon?)

Just a rant... I needed one, sorry. Grrrrr

After one update I could no longer get my webcam to work.  I have followed every tutorial on the internet, on how to get it back, for the past four months, and still cannot solve the problem 🤪

My webcam also stopped working after the April 2021 patch Tuesday from MS.

 

I got it back again by going into System / Device Manager / Imaging devices - I right  clicked on the device name and selected Uninstall, then after a restart, I let windows find the camera again. 

 

It worked for me, hope it helps

Thank you @sashwilko but this and a hundred other 'tips' have not worked for me.  It's driving me mad 🤪 It's nowhere to be found on my computer, but when I try to go to Microsoft to download it again, it tells me that it's on my computer and is working fine.  Go figure 🤷‍♀️ Judging from all of the tips on this subject on the internet, it's been a big problem for many people.

So this months MS updates have broken my USB hubs!

I have uninstalled the update (KB 5003637) to no avail... Fully aware this is not a support forum but any overlooked ideas would be appreciated.

 

Scenario: Laptop, 2 * USB2, 1 * USB3.

6 things to connect;

wireless mouse (dongle 1 -usb2),

wireless keyboard (dongle 2 -usb2),

printer/scanner (usb2),

external Seagate hard drive (for back ups -usb2),
USB3 memory stick (for ReadyBoost and back up - usb3),

Ext DVD/CD drive (laptop doesn't have one - usb2).

 

Until yesterday, when the evil updates occurred, I had two '1 into 4 USB hubs' (not externally powered), connecting all these things successfully.
Since the update, I cannot use either of the USB hubs (even with only one device attached). I have uninstalled the update... pointless.
What are the chances of two passive devices failing at the same time?... what are the chances of MS effing up again?

 

Life was much happier, simpler, and more economically efficient, before modern computers. I doubt if N.A.S.A. can get to the Moon again with monitors clogged with Office365 adverts and OneDrive prompts. Halfway to Mars and the control panel says 'MS updates available, oxygen disconnected'.

 

Still unhappy GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR (I know, minor problems in the scheme of things, just needed to share)☹️

Also uninstall USB drivers and restart.

I can empathize.  MS is driving me mad. I've also lost two hubs and connectivity to my internal webcam.  I am reading reports that there will be a Windows 11 by the end of year.  This I will give a try, but perhaps it's time to get an Apple 😜

@ardneh - I spent most of Friday evening rebooting, hence the frustration. I will investigate more about the USB2 drivers but doubt if this is where the problem lies. Thanks for the suggestion though.

 

@Pixey - If we are both seeing similar problems doubtless others are too. I hope MS will pick up on this and offer a 'patch'... sadly I don't have much faith in them left.

I seem to have solved my usb2 hub problems! (happy again)😊

 

I was confused about reinstalling the drivers for the hubs as they're passive and don't have drivers, as I understand... just wiring.
The information here about how hubs actually work was informative. The problem I was seeing was the mouse 'dongle' would work when plugged directly into the usb port, however it would fail when plugged in via the hub.(last usb device malfunctioned). Eventually I plugged in the usb hub and connected devices then uninstalled all the usb2 entries as shown in solution 4 here. So actually removing the drivers for the separate devices. Then restarted... success!!!

 

Doing this without the devices connected did not work previously - I thought they would load the driver when connected, but no.
 Note: I have also implemented solution 3 on that page, I think the MS updates turned off the external Hard drive, somehow corrupting the drivers?.

 

I hope the instructions in the links shown help @Pixey get her hubs and camera working again too. (Ignore the 'Partition wizard' adverts).

I misspoke about the hubs, it was 2 USB's, which are still kaput, but the computer works fine without them.  And, I have tried and tried to fix the internal webcam, to no avail, so I gave up and bought and external webcam 😁

I have not seen it so I can't say. However, we should be mindful that animated/flashing images can cause issues for people, so yes, please, @Pixeycan we remedy?
