david.atwell
Never had any issues like that in Win10, but I really hated that it would constantly upgrade without my consent. That's what annoyed me the most about Win10. I pretty much use Linux 99% of the time these days and am much happier because of it. Set your network connection to "metered." That makes all upgrades manual. Easy-peasy. 2 Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. dipstick
I didn't know about that setting. I just restored my Win10 image on my laptop to try it out. Hopefully no more Windows updates...
BoltBait
Ugh! Fighting with JavaScript on IE all day. There are some things that it simply won't do. Damn it! Took a break from that to help my daughter with her C++ homework... More frustration. Spent 3 hours researching/fixing bugs in her code and it still doesn't work. I just don't know enough about C++ to help her this time. If only she was in a C# class... Not a good day, code wise. But, I did make a Tri-Tip for Easter dinner that turned out pretty well. dipstick
Screw Windows.......go with Linux instead. I'm currently spending 99% of my time in Linux and looking to go 100% very soon.
david.atwell
Meh. I have Ubuntu on the other partition of the computer I'm typing on right now, and I never boot into it. Like, ever. I think the last time was ten or eleven months ago. I think Linux is a fine OS, but since Windows already does everything I want it to anyway, why bother switching? dipstick
The opposite for me. I have Win10 on another partition that I rarely use any more. I like Linux for the following reasons. 1) It's free and very versatile. 2) More secure than Windows. 3) More stable than Windows. To each their own. Using XP online is asking for trouble. barbieq25
Yer! Thankfully it is a short drive to work for me & usually it only takes one change of traffic lights to get through. Like 10 mins. During this time I see so many drivers doing the head-bob when they are stopped at traffic lights. "Something needs to be done about the timing of the traffic lights!" was the cry in a recent pre-election poll. Random breath tests & speed cameras are just revenue-raising...If the police wanted to do that they could just sit at the lights. I think the fine is about $385 (AU) Probably 10 people at the 6 traffic lights I have to go through. Over $23,000 There are lots more lights that 6 1 Quote Knowledge is no burden to carry. Si Borg
People who drive slooow in the fast lane = "Well, I'm gonna make a left turn, after lunch" There must be millions of drivers worldwide who shouldn't be in charge of hunks of metal killing machines - and then there's the inadequacies of the courts to deal with them (but I won't rant at that one ) But daytime TV. Not sure if I don't need pain killers because it numbs the brain or to take them to get through some of the dross that's on. I'll die a happy man if I see someone spark out Jeremy Kyle. BoltBait
When I got out of the car last night, the seatbelt prevented the door from closing fully... dome light was on all night... dead battery this morning... All I have is a trickle charger... waiting... waiting... Why doesn't the car automatically prevent this sort of thing? Do we lack the technology? Time to break down and get a real battery charger... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I recently tried to install the latest “Mem Maker” plugin by BoltBait. It required the installation of his latest plugin pack. All well and good, but it only included an installation.exe and not a zip file with the required .dll’s. This is great for novice users, but is a real annoyance for the annal retentive users like me that want to have 100% control of what goes into our PC’s. I do hope that this isn’t a trend. Nothin’ wrong with good old fashioned Drag and Drop…..
Ego Eram Reputo
Quote It required the installation of his latest plugin pack. No it doesn't - it is housed in the plugin pack - you don't need to install everything in the pack. Select just the single DLL and the installer will only install that. BoltBait
EER is exactly correct. If you select the single effect you want, nothing else gets installed. You ARE in complete control over what gets installed on your system. And, (here's the biggie) I no longer have to respond to posts asking how to install plugins. 1 Quote Click to play: Download: BoltBait's Plugin Pack | CodeLab | and how about a Computer Dominos Game

Select just the single DLL and the installer will only install that. Yes, I know all that. That wasn't my point. This is great for novice users assuming the Author has good intent, but what if the Author put malicious code in the .exe? I Unpacked the .exe but was unable to extract the dll's from the .text image. I ended up installing it in a VM knowing it would be harmless in a sand-boxed environment. Then I copied the dll to a USB thumbdrive. Once again: Nothin' wrong with supplying a zip file with the dll's.
Ego Eram Reputo
The installer has only been made available to a select few. It has not been released publicly for that reason. If you can trust the plugin author and their DLL(s) - you can trust their installer.
