The problem with that is that we don't want to keep younger users or out-of-country users from joining.  That's a barrier to entry that would impact legitimate users.

You may find that almost all "young" people (far more than adults) have mobile phones, hardly preventing genuine new members wishing to join, also if new members have got nothing to hide, then it's not exactly a barrier.

I agree with mottoman that no spammer is going to go out of their way to buy a sim card (that needs activating) in order to flood the forum, most spammers want a forum that is easy to become a member of.

I'd never divulge my phone number just to join a forum.

Not to mention, our forum Admins would have to set a server to send out the sms messages, create the authentication tokens, ect.

And let's not forget there are plenty of services out there that provide temporary burner numbers.

When I upgraded to Windows 10 right clicking on the pinned task bar applications was not working.

After 5 refresh installs and several hours I finally figured out that %APPDATA%\Local cannot be moved to a different drive.

My rant is also Windows related.

Like the 2/3 times a month they ring me up to tell me my system has got viruses etc and they will help me sort it out.

All very friendly when I string them along but very rude when you call them out about being scamming beggars or tell them - hang on, I'm using an apple mac   

 

But seriously the next one is having an air horn down the line

I posted this on DA, but about two weeks ago, I was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It's a milder form and not as severe as my brother's, but MS is MS. It's full of unhappy surprises.

A very cruel disease. I just hope a cure or at least something to slow it's progress is found very soon.

I finally had the chance to get the MRI and that was pretty scary. I mean, I knew all along I had some kind of nerve issue, but it wasn't official, you know? But yeah, life is life. That's my burden. And thank you, King Ochre.

I, too, am sorry to hear about this Helen. I hope it stays 'at bay' for as long as possible.

 

I know, first hand, how destructive these types of diseases can be as my father was recently diagnosed with Parkinsons.

This is a very, very minor rant in the scheme of things.

Windows 10 screensaver photos:
Every time I wake the laptop it shows an image before I log-in... most of these are very impressive photographs. My rant is that it asks for feedback and the only option is 'like' or 'dislike'.
I guess MS is a very binary environment!.. the whole gamut of human emotion there.

I would like to see a link to some information about the location/subject of the photograph, possibly even credit the photographer?...link to an M.S. discussion forum on aesthetics with some ads for prints to pay for it?

The latest one I've seen shows a woodworking plane laid blade down? ... I expect the photographer just throws the camera in the mud when finished too!

I prefer a 'cabinet scraper' to a smoothing plane. To be honest, I don't like all this new technology, I'm happier with a flint, still 'clothing' and 'lighting' are a boon.

Liking and disliking have come to be the most annoying form of "communication" for people accustomed to the traditional notion of communication. If I post a status on my Facebook expecting to gather opinions, most acquaintances won't talk. Instead, people go about liking... or disliking when they don't hit the like button and everything I can assume is that either they didn't like what I said or have no interest in it. This binary approach leaves a lot of room for assumptions perhaps unbased, or a lot of room for assumptions perhaps too well-based in my mind... though my mind may be wrong and contemporary communicational approaches won't let me know. So confusing, yet not too much
