Rants *enter at own risk*

Some guy who just graduated from my highschool last year just got arraigned for stabbing a person to death. Idiot.

What's really ticking me off, though, is how people at school are talking about it. "It wasn't preconceived, it was in the heat of the moment..." blah blah blah. Who gives a ****ing **** whether it was preconceived or not. He took the life of a promising young man just because he was a little angry. Why does it make any difference if he planned it an hour before or seconds before it happened? Give me a break.

And all the speculating about the number of year's he'll be sentenced to in prison. Is this some sort of game to everyone?

I agree with pdnnoob on this preconceived or not isnt relevent. If it can't be classified as manslaughter then it's a murder, plain and clear cut.

My condolences to Barbie. I can only imagine.

Apparently since I don't need anything, I already bought myself a phone and the things I want (an LP player and speakers) are too expensive, I'm not getting a birthday present. #firstworldproblems

I'm not that upset about it to be honest, but I wish my mom had told me our financial situation wasn't that great, though. I feel like an idiot for comparing macbooks and talking to her about which would be better...

Our parents try to insulate us from that stuff.  It's a protective/nurturing thing.  That your Mom didn't tell you is a sign she is trying to do good things for you well being.

I honestly can't see how not telling your child about the family's financial situation is a form of protection. What good will it do? Protect them from worry?

I can almost guarantee to you right now that your kid is several times better at not worrying than you are. If your kid is old enough to know how money works, your kid is old enough to be told that his parents can't afford a new computer. Trust me, it won't hurt your kid a bit. It might even make him content to know that you've given him the best you could afford.

From a different angle, when is the last time hiding something has been good for a relationship. Maybe once in NEVER. This is a trust issue we're talking about here. You know the whole "rebellious teen" nightmare parents always have? Yeah, well, you're making it worse.

I didn't agree with Mom.  Just tried to explain why she might have not shared the information.

You see, your kids are your responsibility.  You are meant to take care of them.  Ensuring they don't have extra stuff to worry about is part of the job description.

I'm sure a lot of parents would agree that financial constraints are the parents concern and not their offspring's.  So they try to insulate said offspring.  After all, what can a nine year old do about it?  Get a job?

I think that it can be important for parents to talk about finances in the presence of their children when those children are older. It's a way for the children to begin to understand what running a family is going to be like. I'm nineteen, and my parents somewhat frequently discuss important financial matters when I'm around.

I'm not going to censor your discussion as long as it remains civil, but you've dragged this thread off-topic. If you want to continue your debate, make a new thread and let me rant in peace.

I do understand the reason why.

Well, my parents are buying me a 3-day ticket to a music festival in Helsinki in August. And they are putting a 100€ on my account. More than I need and could not be happier

Very nice.  What music stuffs will be at the festival?

And dang, three days?

Anyways, I've been very stressed lately.  Lots of (real, painful) headaches.  As in, so much that it has affected my schoolwork and the like.

I've also been fighting away some self-harmful thoughts from my brain.  Thankfully, none of them have been at night when I'm alone.  That's when it becomes a problem.

Seriously, though - I barely ever talk to my "friends".  They rarely listen.  And I need some mirrors, because some of them throw some dang hypocritical insults sometimes...  Also note that, for my birthday on the 26th, I managed to get a whole two friends to come over.  It was good fun, but my least favorite teacher can throw a party with more guests.

The hardest part of ending is starting again.

here's the lineup: http://www.flowfestival.com/program/

I'm particularly happy to see: Kraftwerk's allegedly epic show, GY!BE, Beach House and Rubik. And although it's three days I'll probably spend the nights at home since it's a 30 minute train trip (1 hour by bus) away from home.

Rant: My thighs have gotten bigger (muscle and fat) and I couldn't fit into one of my pairs of jeans. :( Well, exercise season starts on Saturday!

Someone hacked into my Paypal the other day and basically drained my bank account, which is my own stupidity, I suppose, for having my bank account linked to my Paypal.  Anyway, I reported the fraud and am in the process of getting the money back, but it won't be until next Friday, which doesn't help me now.

I just don't get that thieving mentality.  What is it that takes place in people's thought processes that tells them it's okay to just take what they want from other people who have worked for what they have?  How does one justify doing that to someone else?  How do they sleep at night?

What I do know is this: I hope whoever it was that stole from me gets hemorrhoids.

@RedBeard: That's horrible. When I illustrated my first children's book a few years back, I opened up a PayPal account because the author wanted to pay me that way. After the author sent my payment and I saw that it was in my account, I get a phone call from "PayPal" saying that I need to return all the money to the author because I was overpaid.

I called the author and asked what was going on and said someone called her and told her the same thing--she needs to give money to me because I never got paid. We figured we're getting scammed. It took her two months I think to get everything sorted. From now on, I don't use PayPal. I'm not getting scammed or robbed of my money again that I worked so hard for.

I've only used it once for ordering a CD online from the UK (since the website didn't support a finnish online bank system) and for that it worked okay. However I've heard lots of terrible things about it :(

I'm a big supporter of PayPal.  Used it many times because NZ is geographically challenged (the S-bend of the world :) ).   Buying, selling, it makes international transactions a breeze.
