My little sister is crying about the talk of my dog's life approaching its end, and now I'm slightly saddened again too...

I'm still kind of shocked - my dog was fine a week ago, and now she can't even use her back legs.  I don't know what happened.

The hardest part of ending is starting again.

Rant of the day: 9ers

Do you mean 49ers?? I personally was bummed and lost much interest in watching the superbowl due to Denver getting so close and then falling on their faces. My brother watched and I just asked him a few questions now and then.

##*$## time keepers ( insert angry smiley )

Entered the masters games this year ( for those unfamiliar with the event it alternates between here (Wanganui ) and Dunedin and is a mini olympics complete with games village and medals for the over 35's )

I took part in 3 events

Duathlon ( run 5k,bike 30k and run 5k ) Was an event I wasn't expecting to do too well in, especially as I have a mountain bike and not a road bike but ended up with a gold medal in the 40-49 age group :)

XC mountain biking four laps of a quite technical course vid can be seen here

( I am not in the vid )

Didn't place but I gave 100% so have no regrets ( the top guys were way out of my league )

and the last event was the stair racing it consists of about 320 steps, starting at the road there is a straight run of about 100steps then another 50 or so in 3 groups seperated by some hilly path ways then a run across a car park before climbing Durie hill tower approx 180 steps.

Now I have been running this every Monday for the last year and consistently run 6mins 15 secs so was pretty much assured gold and was even hoping that on the day I could make a challenge on the record of 5mins45secs.  On reaching the top of the tower I was told I was the fastest time and I blitzed it on the way down now this is were the RANT starts.

I saw the time keeper write a time down and waited around for the next guy to see how far behind he was, on getting to the bottom the time keeper recorded his time and turned to the girl writing them down and says "That's Paul"  I corrected him but he looked very confused as did the girl writing the time down :(

After a few mins had passed I looked at the results and found I had bronze with a time of 6.48 and the guy that had gold had a time of 6.18 ( meaning if correct I had lost over 30 secs on the downward section ) seeing as most people said I was the fastest they had seen coming down something felt odd.  I asked them to check the times which they did and assured me no mistakes had been made.

Now to the awards ceremony they called out gold for my age group of 6.18secs and race number and name, the guy they named ( I thank him for his honesty ) had timed himself and had a time 7.35 and a different race number ( cue confused looks between time keepers ) they then left to recheck the times and left the 40-49 age group till last.  When they came back the time of 6.18 ( my normal average time in practice or close to it ) had been taken away and everyone was promoted up one place ( so I got silver ) I know that time of 6.18 was mine and although I am happy with silver knowing all my hard work through the year was ruined due to sloppy record keeping is disappointing to say the least.

My silver medal time in the end was 6.48 over 30 secs slower than all my practice runs and only 12 seconds behind gold and to top it all off if I was infact the 21st runner and not the 20th ( confusion with names at the end of course ) I would of had 5.48 and just 3 secs outside the record :(

Apart from this downer the games were a great success and I thank ever body involved in running them :)

You are a hero in my eyes. Just being able to do all that stuff is amazing. Esp. given that you had the wrong type of bike for starters & the stuff that has happened to you with the bike. Man, you deserve gold! I am pleased that the guy was honest. I hope the time keepers get some sort of training to ensure this does not happen again.

A huge pat on the back for you from me :D

Bet you have a lot of fun doing it even if you don't win. Nice course. They do something similar near me at a ski area. A downhill race on ledges, rocks and dirt and they are crazy, all going as fast as they can. I am too old to do it but still enjoy watching.  ;)

Update on the dogs - we are going to put them down in about two weeks.
One has a tumor and the other can't use her back legs.  Since they were raised together, we're putting them down at the same time.

And now, I have to try to stop caring about that so that I can do my math homework, because the world isn't going to care.

The hardest part of ending is starting again.

Well, I care.  When I read your post yesterday about your sick dog, I thought about it the whole day.  I am saddened to hear about two of your dogs having to be put down.  I know how heart-wrenching it is to lose a pet.  Just remember that your dogs had a good life with you and it is now time to go.  Time will help heal the sadness tears.gif

I feel you AGJM, having moved, my 20 year old brother stayed in Virginia, so that has sucked in many ways. The feelings and emotions are hard to deal with but in my own experience, it helps to release those feelings in your creativity, allowing your heart to better move on, it's like your own eulogy in a sense.

Also know that as your intellectual and physical developement progresses up to your 20s, it will have caught up to your emotional creative side, and it wil be easier to control and deal with the overwhelming feelings you have. I speak from personal experience.

I'm very sorry about your dogs. :( I've never had a pet, nor have I lost anyone, pet or person, that close to me so I can't even begin to imagine how you are feeling. All I can say to you is to try and be equanimous.

Well, the dogs are gone now.  The hardest part is coming home - they aren't there to greet us anymore.

So, now, it's time to wait a month or two to get used to them being. gone.

The hardest part of ending is starting again.

I feel for you AGJM :(  We have had to euthanize some very special pets, so I know you're in a dark place right now. Get the support you need from those around you and above all, talk about your departed pets.  Doing so will often bring tears, but also healing.

@AGJM: I'm really sorry to hear about your loss.

A few of my pets (due to age or because they got hurt by other animals) and it wasn't easy to deal with the passing. We (our family) didn't wait long to get new pets to help us remind of the ones we lost.

@AGJM - You are in my thoughts at this very sad time.  It will take a while .... keep busy and remember that you gave those dogs a good life.  I have no doubt they were very happy doggies during their time with you.

@AGJM - I know. It's been almost six months for us, and the house seems way too quiet sometimes. It takes time.

My husband has contacted some breeders, but I'm not sure I'm ready for a puppy just yet. Of course it would be a few months, so we'll see.

Rant: A few years ago I pre-ordered some books from Amazon. They are part of a series and were being reprinted, so I bought # 1 through 12, and 18 through 20 as they came out. I was hoping to get them all in the same format. The ones I had pre-ordered were supposed to be available in a couple of months, then they kept pushing back the publication date. Eventually they said the publication date was 2035. In other words, when hell freezes over. I keep getting emails from them saying 'we're still trying to get these books for you'. So I finally decided to look for them second hand, and found a couple of them, and the others I bought new, but they're all in a different format from the recently reprinted ones.

Yesterday, I got an email from Amazon saying one of them - the third one of this bunch, #15 in the series - will be delivered in September. :|  Sure, now that I've bought it elsewhere. And, what about 13 and 14? and 16 and 17? I'll have read them all by then anyway, and if they do print them all I can return the secondhand ones to the store for a partial refund, and they'll buy the new ones for sure. But geez!

My father who lives in Wisconsin has bird dogs, all Brittneys. The first, Scout, we got as a puppy when i was 5. The second, Hunter we got when I was 10 or 11. Scout and hunter can go outside without a leash one at a time, but never together. When they get out together they run off, wearing their paws sore from the asphalt roads. Anyways in the fall of 2011, they got out together and apparently when they were crossing a road, Hunter got across but Scout, being 11 at this time and very old; got hit. I'm not as hurt not but I still am quite sad over it as Scout and me had a special connection. I was the only one other than our dad who could teach him tricks and he keep me company during my post surgery recovery in 2005.

Now my dad has another Brittney, Remington (we just call him Remy)

Sooo I was totally going to create a Happy New Years post since mine was 2 days ago... (no not a month late, I'm part asian lol) but I decided not too after I saw this one had already been created http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/18052-happy-chinese-new-year/?hl=%2Bhappy+%2Bnew+%2Byear ... and was locked. :(

I'll say it here though just because it's important in my culture to start off the new year in a positive way! Happy New Years to you all, may the new year of the snake bring you good luck and great fortune! toast.gif

Sometimes school sucks... I just learned that I failed my first O-chem test miserably. Like 56% miserably. Never seen a grade that low my entire life. Now I'm going to have to work my butt off all semester just to make up for it. *commence sad violins* http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>smiley-sad008.gif http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>smiley-sad008.gif http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>smiley-sad008.gif
