DarkShock Posted August 2, 2009 Share Posted August 2, 2009 Rant: My connection is weird. My connection is only fast after 12am. It's slow in the morning and afternoon. why is this? Your bandwidth is shared by many people. Your ISP isn't going to run dedicated cables between themselves and every single subscriber unless you're paying quite the premium for that privelege. They run a single line to your general area and branch that out to all their subscribers. The more people using this bandwidth at once, the slower everyone's connections will be. Yeah, that's what I though. I'm planning on buying a new router that can handle multiple devices connected to it. I've been looking at quite a few Wireless N-routers. Think of it this way: if you have a garden hose, and the flow is not fast enough to fill your pool in a reasonable amount of time, stealing a firehose and attaching it to the end of the garden hose is not going to help at all. Mike Ryan Posted August 2, 2009 Share Posted August 2, 2009 If your ISP is DSL based and their modems support Quality of Service (QoS) you could always disable it, and that may or may not speed up your connection somewhat. I know that when I just recently switched from cable to DSL I was getting great speeds but slow latency and disabling the QoS really helped out. The pumps cut off like the tank is full. Oh, and did I mention my cat just got eaten by a fox coyote and I'm still seeing bits of him whenever I walk around the neighborhood?
