pyrochild
It's really early to be thinking about rewards. Rant: Please, folks, stop saying that plugin authors should do this or plugin authors should do that. First of all, you make it sound like a free-for-all where we're all out to get one another. This is not the case! Whether you realize it or not, there is a lot more cooperation going on between developers than everyone seems to make out. Whether it's via private messages, a chat client, another forum, or whatever, many of us do, in fact, work together. And if we don't, that's still not your problem, and not your place to tell us that we should. What's annoying is the way you all seem to want to control the way we work. The more pressure we feel from you to do things a certain way, the less willing we will be to do it. So please, let us do our job -- err, hobby -- and you can do yours. Stick to the things you know. Or go learn. Just don't go around spouting your mouth. Kay? Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it! Mike Ryan
Rant: (The following is a fight back against Pyrochild) There is no place to share source, work together, and get nearly direct feedback as well as get preview releases of PdN, or rater there is one, but not public for everybody. A central medium for working together is either strangled across the programming section of this forum, or is tightly gnit like other places of this forum that are not public. As well, the ability of some programmers to take advice is very limiting and is usually not taken into account. At least, not publicly causing multiple strands of the same suggestion to build up. The large amount of secrecy that goes on in programming really damages smaller plugin authors like Sabrown and Pyjo, whom both have great ideas but no well kept area to share source, ask for help, and make sure there plugins will work with future releases of Paint.NET. Further more, many programmers must rely on the source of Paint.NET to try to get an understanding of what is and isnt possible with the Effects API and Filetype API. No true documentation on how to take a hold of these APIs is making it harder and harder to see strength coming from single developers. Pyro, if you want your problem reprimanded do what Rick does: Allow for betas publicly and give out alphas beyond your Fighter's Club. Talk with your fanbase, and if they are not your priority then make it known to everybody. Dont simply Rant about it, do something about it. Let users know what is going on, what to expect, as well as how you want to further increase the productivity of your plugins. Rant Number Two: The tutorials section is way to ineffective. Seperating that part of the forum up into subforums such as Basic Modifications, Advanced Modifications, Renders, as well as Common Paint.NET Operations would cause a lot more quality tutorials to come out of the user base. If the tutorial author isnt sure which category his or her tutorial falls under, then obviously he shouldnt be writing tutorials. And dont give me bloody potato about putting too much work on the moderators. The only reason they have so much work is because this forum was structured for smaller groups, and now with so much expansion things simply dont work as they used to. That is why this forum is becoming more 'spammy' as BoltBait put it. As well, stickied tutorials keeps hidden gems secret. Unsticky everything! Lets reset and start evaluating the actual quality and productivity of stickied tutorials. Things like David's tutorial on Gradient Mapping deserves more attention, while "Exploding Planets" was only cool for a little while. Rant Number Three: I am overloaded with work. I have fifteen birthday cards to be completed by the day after tommorow. None of which came with prepackaged artwork so that means I have a lot of drawing I have to get done tommorow. As well, somehow the misconception that I do websites has gotten out. I guess I can understand the confusement, but I simply had nowhere else to turn them to. I am considering taking some online classes at W3 Schools to try and relearn standards and all. But then that takes time from doing graphics. Bleagh, I hate working. Rant Number Four: A website I am making with a few other members has hit a developement standstill. I simply want to get the private beta out, yet another one of the members wants to be sure that the site is in prime condition. While I agree, I think we need these beta testers in here to get gudiance on what parts need improvement. While the work that Dan Larson has put in has been more than extremely helpful, we still have the code to write for the blogs and the forums and everything else that comes with it. I want the project to go public in two months, and at our current rate of progress we simply wont hit that deadline. While I am not blaming the other members, I really dont want this project to turn into vapor. Rant Number Six: I havent had dinner yet. Seriously, I need to get something to eat but instead I have wasted about ten minutes ranting. As well, my squirel is being a large PITA. I dont know of many people that want a flying squirel, but I think I need to start looking for a good home for it. I simply cant give her the amount of excercise she needs when I am bogged down with work. I hate real life sometimes.
Yata
Developers should have the right to collaborate and work as they want. That's just ignorant by setting a standard. I -think- I understand whats going on... Mike's post made no sense to me. Pyro's did. david.atwell
Encourage what you will in plugin authorship; we do not and will not require anything from plugin authors beyond the expectation that they don't put viruses in their code. :-) EDIT: Oh, and I somewhat agree about the Tuts section (and not just 'cause you gave my tut props (thank you, by the way (nested parentheses!) ) ) - I think that dividing the tuts section might be a good idea, once we find out whether or not the Pictorium forum is a manageable success; I also agree that some Sticky'd tuts should be un-Sticky'd. However, I think changes should happen slightly more slowly. :-) Quote  The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... Mike Ryan
Heh, thanks Oma. I had a lot on my mind so I just let it all out here. Most of it is hard to understand, but I will PM you with a further explanation if you want.

Mike Ryan
I try to help others out as much as possible, which I guess more or less merits me for the Proton award. You can have yours, Oma, you one it fair and square and your post merits as to why you won it. Perhaps BoltBait is correct and I will hopefully keep pulling out quality sigs and avs (even if they are simple) and get that Sig award. We have eight more months to find out
oma
Ah but you all don't know what awards will be added in the next year, so maybe you all already qualify. play nice kiddies. even if you do rant at each other once in awhile. ciao Quote  My Deviant Art Gallery Oma's Paint.Net gallery

david.atwell
As I say, if I change my username, it'll be to David. I'll ask CMD or BB to delete the old "David," and we'll be good to go. :-) But I don't know if they'd do it... I do have a rather recognizable username...
