Help me make this mech come alive

Recommended Posts

Alright folks, I sorta need some help, I've been working on it by myself and have got a few colours in but I don't think I'm doing this to its full potential, anyone want to help me make this drawing come alive?

Here is the original drawing and below are some "source" images, might help out with restoration, I was trying to put a laser or something come out of the hand laser it has but that isn't going to well; however, I will keep working at it... any help peeps? :D

PS: Size dont matter

EDIT: uploading cut version of original drawing, having problems though.

EDIT2: render added, restarting colouring its going ok, any suggestion on that "laser" though?

EDIT3: I can prolly do the colouring myself as it is tedious and pixel art... might take a couple days, but when I'm done, can someone help me with the laser?

alright double posting as sort of a bump to show progress, now any suggestions on making a dullish (not to dull) laser coming from one of the madcat's laser arms?

EDIT: Yes I will fill in the darker lines with black after the effect to lessen my workload :D

EDIT2: this is the best I have done so far on the laser :?

REMOVED

EDIT3: ugh, at least say something like "oh you suck" it would really be cool of you, I've done everything myself anyways, DELETE TOPIC

think this post should actually be in the pictorium section under general discussion for your next post like this

I did a bit of playing using your imag. the best way to describe a midevil art form of black work is what I did below. you could go that route. basically what black work is is monochromatic texture what it does is simulate movement in 2 dimensional drawings. only thing I did when I applied to your picture Freak was make the texture semi transparent. see below

(paterns found under tool paint brush over where it says fill the drop down box has variety of patterns to use)

your perspective in this drawing is very good. It is a pretty awsome picture and very ambitious.

and like bob above said laser tut next buddy boy.

this is how far I got, now off to the hockey game, thanks for the responses peeps :)

PS: Oma, I like your idea it really does help with the effect, I might try and make a "clean" version of it when I get back

EDIT: laser needs some work, I know

glad you liked the idea if you go that route I'd spend a bit more time on it than I did. that was only just did a quick two min. coloring with texture so you could get the idea of what black work was. I couldn't figure out how to explain it otherwise. also do it in layers you might be able to get some additional dimension that way.

enjoy the hockey game.

OMA

PS. before you call it finished don't forget your drop shadows and reflections. could add bit more to the sense of movement. post in the pictorium for all to see when you;re finished.

alright I'm having a dilemma here, I'm not sure which version I like better, with or without Oma's suggestion, although a good idea I'm not sure it works with this picture, compare the feet.

EDIT: Oh, and if you have anymore suggestions or notice some errors (other than errors made in the drawing (comparison, size, etc.)) please say so...

EDOT2: oh and does anyone hate/like the smoke coming out of the bottom of the madcat, it is supposed to be the beginning of its jumpjets but some people I guess would see it as exhaust or something.

can someone help me with the "shadow" too?

I like the top one better, and no smoke coming out is better.

As for shadow, depends on where you want the light sorce to be.

Maybe Missiles doesn't need to show outside of the Missile pods?

I hope you DON'T mind I took it a bit far :P

Hope it's to your liking :)

Wow, thank you... however.

I like the top one better and I would have to agree with you on the smoke... problem with the shadow ones you created is that there are no missile pods, the original mech does have pods showing and I would really like that in there, AND the shadow does have some "wtf is that" spots(no offense I wouldn't even know where to begin with shadows)... think you can spruce up the shadow a bit(dark one) and maybe I can redraw the missile pods and remove the smoke?

I like that one more too :)

You will have to clean up your drawing and make some of the "wtf spots" more clear so would make how to add shadow and metal feel to it much easier. :)

ie. The black lines

so you want the black lines thicker? or you want the darker pencil lines gone?

@FrEaK: need clearer black lines, some part of the mech I don't know, just doesn't seem it's connected...like the leg on your left side I dont' see how it's connected to the body.

@MadJik: What the????LOL cute

alright I'll do my best, tomorrow :D, really tired tonight

MadJik... wtf?
