4GB's of DDR2 RAM

Intel i7 processor (3.0Ghz)

nVidia GeForce 9600GT

600W power supply

DVD/DVD-RW Drive

Sound card/Video card

+ The case, XP Pro and any other things which are nessesscary but I have no clue about.

You do realize that NewEgg charges 290$ for the 920 (2.66Ghz), and 560(!)$ for the 940 (3Ghz), right? You'd be better off overclocking it, like Rick did. The performance difference between the two (Unoverclocked) is 5-10%, which could be neutralized if overclocked to 3.1Ghz easily. Use the extra money to buy a GTX285, which is truly awesome...

Sound is built into the motherboard, and video card = graphics card. Get a 700W+ PSU. Get a cheaper brand of memory, buy 6GB RAM and use the tripple channel abilities of the X58 platform. While the memory may be slower, the extra 2GB will compensate.

Looks like I'll be learning how to overclock aswell then

But, yeah, thanks for the advice.

Overclocking an i7 920 is easy.

1. Hop into BIOS, make sure RAM is set to lowest speed setting (e.g., PC-800 or PC-1066, leave the "8-8-8-24" numbers alone)

2. Set "BCLK" to 166. (default is 133) (yields 3.33ghz)

---

Repeat until step 4 causes a crash:

3. Boot in to Windows.

4. Make sure Prime95 runs the stress test for ~20 minutes.

==> If crash, then skip step 6

5. Restart and go back into the BIOS.

6. Increase BCLK by 5-10 points.

---

7. Back in the BIOS, drop BCLK down to the last comfortable number.

8. Boot in to Windows.

9. Make sure Prime95 runs the stress test for 24 hours.

...

10. Set RAM to nominal speed. If you bought DDR-1333 memory then make sure you end up with a 1333 setting, etc.

11. Profit

Just wondering, how much would it cost for this spec computer custom-built over being pre-paid?

(yes, I know this isn't a tech support question, but I'm more looking for advice over actual support)

Please don't pair an i7 with a slow 9600. At least get a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 or ATI Radeon HD4850.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

Can't imagine why I'd care.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Okay, here's what I've got so far:

Intel Core i7 @ 2.66 Ghz

GeForce GTX 285

700W PSU

Intel X58 ATX Motherboard

6GB (3 X 2GB) DDR3 1333 RAM

Not sure about the DVD/DVD-RW drive, and would this case be good aswell?

EDIT: Whoops, forgot the hard drive

That will be a sexy computer.

And a expensive one :)

$1318.94, compared to some computers which costs nearly twice that and are nowhere near as good :D

That comes to about £927 (english pounds), so I'll probably cut back on the graphics card a little bit (I mean, it costs more than the processor :/, and I still want some money for a DVD drive)

You could probably step down to a a Geforce 260 / 265 and not regret it too much, unless you're a hardcore gamer.

I though that was funny for a 285 to be so cheap but then I saw it was PNY. Going to warn you right here right now, You get what you pay for !.

I would look at BFG and Evga for video cards for 2 reasons. There good and they both offer lifetime warranty so it don't matter when the card dies, it will be replaced.

the BBC always do good TV.

Um... What? Apart from when they don't, which is most of the year. I find that there is a good series every three or four months on BBC1, such as Hustle which I shall be watching in five hours time, and BBC 2 isn't bad for the odd documentary. BBC 3 is unnecessary and BBC 4 by all rights should not exist. And, by the way, we've got your snow now, and it's starting to settle. Damn, more ice on my hill... It'll get glaciated soon, I swear; there's a corrie at the top already.

I'm announcing my official return to pdn. Though my desktop is about 5 - 6 years old and seems about to die, I will probably be running boot camp on my computer so I can run XP. I love what pdn produces. I was digging through my photobucket and came across my current. 100% pdn except for render and I even tut it. I miss work like this because it stands out over photoshop. I will be doing a lot more manips like my current rather then brushes and stuff. ha. I also will be creating C4Ds since I got cinema 4d and I'll have exclusive download for the pdn members here.

I have never tried much of smudge on pdn so maybe I can master that and conquer the world. haha. I've been talking to doctor a lot recently, and he is truly and amazing artist. His work has won him a lot of SOTW's on GameRenders.com, beating those of photoshop. I will still be using photoshop though for making sigs occaisionly, all my school work, and the other programs I purchased with CS3 like Flash and Illustrator and InDesign and dreamweaver.

I'll be producing a lot more resources and tutorials and even better, video tutorials.

I know none of you care, but I wanted to just say it. =]

Hustle which I shall be watching in five hours time

Hustle. Is. Awesome.

Anyone who says different needs to go see a psychiatrist.

BBC 3 is unnecessary

 BBC3 is decent. Good for when you miss programmes on BBC1/2 and is shown as a repeat on BBC3. Like Heroes.

BBC 4 by all rights should not exist

QFT. End of.

Merry Christmas
