Also, why take a laptop if you want a separate GFX card of that price? You can get a 9800GTX+ or a 4850 for that money.

If that's the money you are willing to spend on the full laptop, you should be thinking Eee PC, not something with a really deluxe graphics card.

If I were you, I would have gone with this. Assuming of course that money is a major concern. :)

That's a 6-bit panel though, and uses temporal dithering to simulate the full 8-bit range. Cheaper yes, and quite usable, but not for me :) I'll be using this monitor for years, many hours every day, so it's worth it to me to spend a few hundred dollars for the better quality.

If I were to get a 6-bit panel down at that price range, I would've gotten this Samsung: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... g%202493hm

Ah, I see. So your objective was to get a nicer high end model, not just more screen real estate. In that case your choice makes perfect sense. :)

250-350€ for the graphic card is realistic I guess...

I would spent 800-1000€ on the whole notebook^^

I'm not sure how that translates to dollars, but I'll give you a few recommendations anyway.

Here's some on Newegg.

And Gateway too.

If I see some more I'll let you know.

In other news, I updated my project website (From now on called "Fluctu") with a comments section and a preview of the code. This is supposed to get some CC in to continue with it.

Don't get Gateway's. Ever.

I've had excellent experiences with all the Gateways I've ever owned. My first PC, a 1995 Gateway 2000 with a Pentium 133mhz processor, 64 megs of ram (upgraded) and 2 gigs of hard drive space worked so well and reliably that I didn't part with it till I moved last year.

Quite. Don't you remember the '90s? Everything "new, high tech, and cool" had 2000 in it's name then.

That one looks very good and cheap, but why is there 4 GB of ram? Doesn't windows only harks back to 3GB max?

Hmm and it has a HD graca but no HD DVD burner...

Speaking of monitors, I just got a Samsung 245T last week to go with my Dell 2405FPW. Two 24 inchers ... and man this Samsung is sweet.

Yes, it can really only use 3GB's of RAM, but to get the best performance possible, you'll need 4 GB's.

32 bit operating systems can only use ~3-3.2 gigs or ram though, depending on how much your video card uses.
