Mike Ryan
Random off-topicness #2:I've just discovered Mike's website Professional Portfolio whilst visiting DailyApps. Heh, good catch! But yeah, Anhelo Designs was started a while back (I don't think I ever mentioned it, either). I still have a lot of coding and Mr Dan promissed me a custom gallery script. I never mentioned I had actually purchased the site, had a working version of it running, and was working on it. I never truly mentioned Anhelo Designs, AnheloDesigns.com, or other side project of it.
Helio
Considering the nature of this thread, here, I offer a meager addition to this conversation in true off-topic style: I downloaded and installed the free version of WordWeb a while back, after hearing some considerably good reviews of it. It has proved itself to be some-what of an improvement of my previous arrangement; one of its greatest features is the ability to Ctrl + Right-Click (or whichever combination you choose) almost any word on screen, on which it will appear with the definition of the word and a few synonyms. I have found this wonderfully useful - when it works. You see, it has a habit of getting... well, confused. All this is actually related to the last topic. Whilst reading, I decided to pit WW against such a formidable opponent as Anhelo, which had the appearance of being in another language, if a word at all. (Only after reading some of Mike's past posts did I learn of its Latin tendencies.) What was my dismay when it returned me this, possibly its largest error yet: I do believe that jibiizgii is interesting enough a word to merit remembrance. Mike Ryan
Interestingly enough, this first term of school I decided to take Latin I so I will go ahead and explain the use of Anhelo... Anhelo* means in crave, stive for, lust, wish to renew. A more modern descendent of anhelo comes in the form of simple anhelo in the spanish dictionary meaning crave (Spanish, as you should know, is perhaps to be the most Latin-like (better known as Romantic) language still used to this date and thus the spellings are often very similar). The meaning is also similar in other Romantic Languages such as French, Italian, and Romanian. Thus, the direct meaning of Anhelo Designs is to Strive for Designs or Breath to Designs (this is due to various mistranslations. Doesn't stop me from taking advantage of them ). Secondly, the word 'Design' is of Anglo-Saxin origination which is based off of the French word 'dessin'. Being as French is a descendant of Latin, dessin is most likely something like desine* which means drawing or pictures. Final meaning of Anhelo Designs: To Crave the Drawing of Pictures. It is amazing what you can get out of words. Latin is awesome * The underlining of certain syllables is to represent the illongation of such vowels. Obviously I have an American CharSet so the proper character is nowhere on my keyboard. Just image that line is actually above the letter
Helio
Facinating! That's fantastic, Mike. I admire Latin quite a bit also. One name which I particularly enjoy is Themaplex. This is the name of a site devoted to skins, starting with Google, and perhaps expanding from there. Something uH (where is he now?) and I started a while back. I love the concept, if only... *sigh* Quote v An excellent open–source strategy game—highly recommended. "I wish I had never been born," she said. "What are we born for?" Crimson
Well, I just got CS3. And I must say...IT ROCKS. Maybe not interface-wise, but the filters, adjustments and especially the color effects...wow. There is one thing missing that I've found, though. There is no such thing as a transparent gradient. So far, Paint.NET is the only program I've seen implement this. But still, all these great adjustments...but don't worry, I'll still be an avid Paint.NET user. But for photo manipulation, I think I've found my new best friend. -Expiration-
Although CS3 has no transparency gradient function, it does have alpha mask layers, which is, in my opinion, more versatile. It acts as an alpha mask, except within the program. Drawing a simple black to white gradient on one such layer will do the same thing. It is much better in another light as well, since this provides non-destructive editing, so it is easier to backtrack if needed. Quote Call me expired. Please. Enrique
Ive read this thread. It makes a totally mockery of everything a frorum is supposed to have. -Expiration-
What about all the other layers underneath? Don't those become alpha-masked as well? No, I don't think so. These adjustment layers only apply to the layer you assigned it to. Or so I've deduced from reading PS tuts, although I might be wrong. Quote Call me expired. Please. There's no "Centered" option to uncheck, so it blurs both ways. What if you only want it to go one way? What if you only want it to go one way? This, as far as I know, is not correctable. I Despise this forum! Why will you not recognise my social and intellectul superioarity!? It might have something to do with how you insulted the first person to welcome you to this forum, and how you cannot properly spell certain words, leading me to conclude that your intellect is not as superior as you think it is.
