The <off topic> thread

Recommended Posts

The intended use of the [imgflt] tag was for tutorials and the like - long posts where there's an image associated with a paragraph. Like how I do my tutorials on my own site, you could have a thumbnail underneath the step header and right alongside the paragraph that describes what it is.

Another BBCode advancement that's not yet on the posting screen but still available is the [nlink] and [ntarget] tags. They create named anchor links within the same post. Again, as on my tutorial linked above, if you click on "Step 3 - Makin' the Masking" on the side, the browser will jump down to the heading "Step 3 - Makin' the Masking". In this example, [nlink] would be the clickable link, used in place of the tag, and [ntarget] would be the header that it jumps down to.

Example, in parsed and code views:

Table of Contents:

Go to step 1

Go to step 2

Go to step 3

Bla bla welcome to my tutorial! It will teach you how to be big and strong and handsome like me.

Step 1 - Big like Me

To be big like me, you must eat McDonalds, even if it makes you sick.

Step 2 - Strong like Me

To be strong like me, you must lift weights at least once a year.

Step 3 - Handsome like Me

There is no hope. Give up now.

Table of Contents:
[nlink="step1"]Go to step 1[/nlink]
[nlink="step2"]Go to step 2[/nlink]
[nlink="step3"]Go to step 3[/nlink]

Bla bla welcome to my tutorial! It will teach you how to be big and strong and handsome like me.

[ntarget="step1"][size=130][color=#0080BF]Step 1 - Big like Me[/color][/size][/ntarget]

[ntarget="step2"][size=130][color=#0080BF]Step 2 - Strong like Me[/color][/size][/ntarget]

[ntarget="step3"][size=130][color=#0080BF]Step 3 - Handsome like Me[/color][/size][/ntarget]

As you can see, the [nlink] takes care of the anchor tag - a new tag was necessary to replace the tag because the tag doesn't like URLs that start with pound signs - and the [ntarget] tag creates the named anchor, but preserves any font styling BBCode you put within or around it and applies it to the contained text. Just give your [nlink] and [ntarget] tags the same ="name", and you've got a quick and efficient way to organize long posts. ;)

Well, it's "available" for anyone to use, it's just not in the list on the Post a Reply screen. The reason: I have to fit that whole post up there into a tooltip to explain how to use it properly. >_>

lol you would like IPB forums CMD. You can just add it to the help file and then make a click here link in the tool tip to open up the help page on it.

I've been called Wallace, had the Aziz song sung constantly but hey, guess what, I'm now a government experiment apparently! Well I suppose that would explain my unattractiveness, my geekiness and my weak physicality! :mrgreen: To be honest, I'm going along with the government experiment thing - apparently I can also regenerate :shock: . . . .meaning that am I a timelord now? :shock:

The regeneration thing comes from the fact that I should be dead by the time we finish every physically exhausting PE lesson but I'm still alive when I should be dead so the theory is I regenerate and Torchwood Retcon everyone so no one remembers any of this. :?

All of these things are really weird.

Does anyone draw?

I'm starting to get into it, I'm not to good at it though :roll: .

oma has proclaimed an interest in hand drawing, if I remember correctly. It is hand drawing to what you are referring to, isn't it?

If memory serves, oma has done a fair amount of research, so she might be the best person to talk about to this. I don't want to say too much, however, just in case I'm off the mark.

I draw. My friends think I'm really good, but I think I'm just okay at it. I don't draw realistic things though, mostly anime-ish characters, weapons, and anime-ish characters with weapons. Yeah.

Call me expired. Please.

You so need something like Adobe Illistrator, Corel Draw, or Inkscape and start doing some line based works and then importing them into Paint.NET. That stuff, in my absolute opinion, is the funnest work possible. You get to explore the worlds of hand drawing (which I use Artweaver now, instead of paper), vector editing to clean it up (Corel Draw X4 ftw!), and Paint.NET for colors and blending (Channel Mask: Gotta love it).

Well, I did have this cartoon character guy scanned in and traced with the line tool in Paint.NET, I showed it some time ago in the original Pictorium thread. I was going to color it in, but never got around to it. >_>
