I was in the US Coast Guard Reserves for 12 years.

Yes, we carry guns in the Coast Guard.

yes, thanks for your service Boltbait...I live about 1.5 miles from the coast (of Lake Michigan, but still a coast)

And the Coast Guard carries a better handgun than most of the other branches (Go Sig Sauer!)

I had 2 main jobs in the CG. The first was SAR (Search and Rescue) which was boring. And, the second was ATON (Aids to Navagation) which was a lot of work.

I really enjoyed working on ATON. Our job was to service/replace the dayboards and lights along the Sacramento River from Sacramento all the way to San Francisco.

Here are some pictures of the type of stuff I worked on: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=dayboard+ATON

SAR was boring because you just had to sit around waiting for someone to get lost... :|

I also did some Law Enforcement patrols on the San Francisco Bay. This involved a lot of counting life preservers on board fishing boats, etc. when we pulled over boats on the water. I actually had to carry a gun during this  just in case we came across some drug smugglers. (Which I never did.)

My rank was BM3.

Hmmm...BM3 aligns with the rank of Cpl. haha I'm a cadet corporal (cdt/cpl) in my school's JROTC program. Well, it's not exactly a JROTC program 'cause no one's going to the army....meh long story short I would never join the army. Keeping my uniform perfect is too hard. And I'm not very good at leadership roles :|

I would never want to take a life.

Then why did you join the military?

I'm sorry, but that is the single dumbest thing I've heard all week... And I've been listening to the radio!

Honestly, sabrown, honestly. Shooting at random people just for kicks and giggles is not what the military is about.

Having the courage to do it does not in any way equal having the desire to do it.

EDIT: I think that single post would make you the frontrunner in the WEOMPA race.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

That was a hugley weak argument, I admit. But I was desperate to defend myself after such a pwning. :P The post that pyro criticized I didn't really think through as with a lot of my posts. :(

I just saw a commercial for the new Star Wars live-action TV show.

It was very effective. A simple starfield, Vader's breathing. A glowing "April 2008" on the screen.

And that's it. A little tag at the end features the network and everything, and there's a little sound of a swooshing lightsaber that precedes that, but aside from that, NOTHING else.

Sometimes the subtle things are the most effective.

ABC, correct? I am a huge SW and ST fan. I bleed geekdom for both :D

I gave my dad a copy of Firefly and Serenity for Christmas.

He just told me that he has watched them 3 times since then.

He agreed with me that it is the best Sci-Fi TV show ever made. And, now he's angry that it was cancelled. :D

Actually, it appears that the commercial was just for a showing of Episode IV on Spike. Clone Wars is coming out in August, yes. :-)

EDIT: Oh, and it looks like Cartoon Network.

Welcome back, Helio!

Speaking of, CMD hasn't been around for quite a while.

EDIT: Hehe, d.a went click happy and edited my post :P

He meant to quote me and say:

"True. Clients are stupid, and keep on needing stuff... But he's making money hand over fist, I'm sure. :-)"
