I never took a class in web design or computer programming... just lots of skimming the web to find what I need to teach myself. It probably would've been easier to learn in a class, but I've never had room in my schedule, being a band geek...

I did take a graphic design class once, though, but I frequently ended up helping the teacher figure out why Photoshop wasn't doing what she expected...

Taking an actual course, though, you'll probably have a more "correct" and "proper" understanding of web design than I do though... hehe.

Great thing is, it's actually part of my major. :-) I love getting a degree for all the stuff I want to learn anyway!

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

My major is New Media, or Multimedia Arts and Science. Video, graphic design, sound, web, flash...great stuff. :-) I love it.

Nah. I've been in college for four years now (I'm 22), but I just switched my major last year for the third (and last) time, so I still have another year or two.

*iz anxious for college*

To me, high school is simply a total waste of 4 years. They give you the illusion of having more freedom in the courses you take than elementary or middle/junior high, but really you don't have much choice at all. You need so many of this credit, and there's only the one class you can get it from, and you need a whole bunch of that credit, but you'll never end up using what you learn in those 8 semesters once you graduate. You need 2 of this credit, but only 1 class offers it, so you have to take the same thing twice in a row... Blah blah blah...

There is a required class at my school that is basically spending a whole semester just learning keyboard shortcuts and basic formatting and layout in Microsoft Office. If one of my best friends hadn't been sitting next to me in that class, I never would've been able to so much as stay awake during a single one of those lessons. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!!

...

Maybe this should've gone in the Rants thread...

Well, I have no student loans whatsoever. As of yet, at least. My parents have been saving for my college since before I was born, so I'm good. 22 isn't any better than 21...any worse either, though...

...As for you, Pyrochild, I know the feeling. I'm self-taught on almost everything computer related until now. And I think my intelligence on these things is a bit above average. So almost any basic-level computer course is nail-to-head worthy. I've had at least two courses in which I've been qualified to teach the class.

And OH MY GOOD LORD, all these people under the age of fourteen...are you guys being serious? I mean, really? I just had a HUGE flash of oldness...seriously, I can feel my bones creaking as we speak...Nothing against you guys, but I didn't start with any serious computing (a la PdN) until I was 16 or so. Crazy! High five, kids, you're set up for a great life.

Whatever happened to 10-year-olds running around outside playing with wooden swords?

Oh, good, I sound like my dad. *sigh* (shoots self)

I know how you feel David, I'm 19 & all these people are waaaay better than me at computery stuff. Having said that I did build this machine which was quite good fun :D

My strong point isn't really computers though, it's music, I've been playing music since I was 12 (nearly 13 at the time though), if I do learn anything about web design / program coding, it'll be from places like Wikipedia & W3 Schools not from formal classes as I'd only use the knowledge to build a basic website or something not for commercials purposes.

Son, someday you will make a girl happy for a short period of time. Then she'll leave you & be with men that are ten times

better than you can imagine. These men are called musicians. :D

CMD is my age (maybe a few months older); his webpages make me cringe and cry with their sheer awesomeness. I know Wikicode decently well; I can code enough HTML to be brutally dangerous (as in, my knowledge of HTML is probably equivalent to the mid-1800's). I'm amazed that Pyro, as a high schooler, can wow us all with his mad "skillz0rz" in C# (or whatever he uses) since I can't code a single line of anything.

Sigh. One day...

I know a minimal amount of HTML (A HREF tags & embedding images), a bit of BB code, & I can read code well enough to delete bits that I didn't want on my myspace page (a contact card I had put an annoying flashy image in th corner of my profile & I deleted it).
