Paint Boy
Oh well if anyone is into classic rock could you tell me if AC/DC is really releasing an album in 2008 and going on a world tour. And could tell me if Van Halen is really coming to Seattle with David Lee Roth in his band again. If so I'd love to both concerts if someone my age was allowed to. Mr Frojo
Cnet says: Generally speaking, any setting less than 75Hz will cause excessive flicker and eyestrain. Really? Ive got mine on 60Hz. Thats the only setting my moniter will go acctualy. I might just be used to it, seeing how thats the only computer Im ussualy on. Quote I'm still alive! Mr Frojo
Thats all it says about that on that page. Anyways, I just checked the computer im on now, and its 75Hz. The flickering is getting pretty annoying, and I really do need a new moniter. What would really be cool is getting 2 moniters, because my new graphics card can handle that. One of my friends does that, and it looks pretty cool. Quote I'm still alive!

Mr Frojo
I dont think ive see that before. And ive been doing fine with it at 60Hz. Ive had that same moniter on the same settings for 4 years now. Quote I'm still alive!

It does not apply to LCD monitors (which usually run at 60Hz). If you have a CRT and want to see the flicker, set it to 60Hz then look directly to the right or left of the monitor. You will see the flicker out of the corner of your eye. If you look directly at the screen, it will not appear to flicker. david.atwell
Flicker? Right, enough of that. :-) I've noticed my computing time has gotten a lot less painful on my eyes when I use my laptop than when I use my CRT. Does this have something to do with electrons being fired directly at my eyes? Quote  The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... Mr Frojo
Different subject now. The latest version of Google Earth is pretty cool. It now has an option called "Switch to sky mode". You get real, Hi res. pictures of the sky. You can zoom in and see galaxies and stuff like that. Quote I'm still alive!

Mr Frojo
I think it does that due to the fact that the moon is always moving, unlike stars. It shows its current position and phase in the sky. Quote I'm still alive!
usedHONDA
I'm loading the new Earth right now.... Ouch. The splash screen they use is a low quality JPEG. You can see the lossyness. Myrddin
Breaking off for the conversation for one post, PDN has just interrupted my laptop from shutting down. My laptop does this thing whereby I'm typing and without warning the keys begin to miss strokes and my touchpad begins to lag and jump missing half of the journey and you have to click a few times for it to register. Now, I've come to accept this as I only have to put my laptop into standby to bring it out of this 'phase' and this time was no different apart from the fact I accidentally clicked Shut Down rather than Standby, so I'm sure you can image my horror with all my windows open and such...until it reached PDN. I had no canvas or drawing open at the time so was essentially doing nothing then the taskbar button began flashing indicating some action was required, yet there was none, so I closed PDN manually and...nothing. No shut down, no blinking, no hesitation from the laptop, nothing. I started back up the Firefox which had been prematurely closed (invoking the session restoration dialog) and began typing this. How funky is that, PDN cancelled out a shut down! Happened to anyone else? Myrddin
I think it's a good move as now it's in your face as soon as you enter the Forum Index, the first port of call. When it was in the Q&GD it was a sticky, and has been mentioned many a time, nobody wants to read stickies (an opinion which I disagree with completely, I might add). Great idea.
