Mike Ryan
So, any plugin author want to make an 'Inset' plugin for me? Like Outline Object, except the outline is drawn inside of the object...
Frontcannon
How is that supposed to work? The inside of something like a ring or.. well, other objects don't really have an inner side. Sarkut
How would the plugin differ from selecting the object and using Outline Selection?
Mike Ryan
I would look for features similar to Pyrochild's Outline Object where you would obviously have control over the width and softness, but I'd also want the ability to change whether or not the stroke would alter the alpha channel that way the inline stroke would not interfere with the antialias-ness of the object. Additionally, I'd want features like the layer blending modes and to angle the stroke.
Sarkut
Sounds good. If you write it, I'll use it.

Mike Ryan
OHHHHHHH duh I can do that. After my differential equations final. Which I should be studying for. Now. Awesome. It would be a fantastic tool for shaping and shrinking objects, not to mention some really cool typography. I wouldn't ask if I wouldn't use! BoltBait
Wouldn't that be the same as Selection > Outline ? You just need to select the box and run the effect. Am I missing something? Mike Ryan
Selection outline is how I am already creating inlines, but it is really ineffective for a number of reasons in this situation. It requires gaussian blurs it get the right softness, alpha masks to preserve the outline of the object, and it is difficult to get good, angled inlines. warfighter67
Here's a few things I've learned about using bevels... When you use bevel selection on transparent layers it's always good to give it an object feather with radius 1 afterwards to get rid of the pixelation from the selection outlines. This way you won't have to blur the whole bevel. Another thing I do with bevels is to make several bevels with the same selection, each with different thickness and each on its own layer. Then I can adjust the blend modes/opacities of each layer to create a sort of gradient bevel. Also there's an alternative to using bevel selection: you can just type the text in black on a transparent layer, apply a slight blur, then use height field to normal map or engrave/emboss, whichever suits your purpose better. Height to normal seems to work better on things with small detail, but you'll need to convert it to black and white. After you apply height field or emboss, set the layer on overlay, and if it's not strong enough duplicate the layer a few times until it is. Wow n d those are some great tips! Frontcannon
Well, I'm back! We rode about 250 kilometers (~ 150 miles) to Amsterdam through 4 days. Then we 'lost' all our money there for buying things to conceal other things. So we took the train back to Eindhoven and then Venlo and now I'm home and broke. I still have some Gouda, though, maybe I should eat it now. Also we went to a camping place at 3 am and left at 8 am so we didn't have to pay. Don't ever make a bike tour if you can't think.. alternatively. LFC4EVER
Awesome. It would be a fantastic tool for shaping and shrinking objects, not to mention some really cool typography. I wouldn't ask if I wouldn't use! i agree. The way i do bevels would be so much easier with an "inline plugin". pyro, it would also be pretty neat if "inline" was incorportated into the outline object plugin, with an option to change where it does an inline, an outline or both. good luck for your differential equations final too. i've heard those are fiendishly difficult.. Rubrica
Off-topic, random question: how much would you say the average person would be prepared to pay for a basic website? As in, the design and layout and such things. My aunt's getting a new website for her "art" business and we want to check we don't pay too much for it (yes we're paying, not her. Don't ask).
