XLT
I have installed Paint.net v3.07. When I try to open a plugin, I get, "image type is not recognized, and cannot be opened." I have followed BoltBaits "Installing Effects" and the only installed effect to appear in the Effects drop menu is "code lab."

BoltBait
Well, you don't actually open plugins. All you need to do is copy them into your C:/Program Files/Paint.NET/Effects folder. XLT
I did that. It does not appear in the Effects drop menu. The only one that appeared was the "code lab."

XLT
In the Effects folder, when I click on an Icon, (eg. Polygon.dll) I get prompted "windows cannot open this file. To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically or you can manually select from your computer. >select from a program from the list > Paint.net > OK > Image type is not recognized and cannot be opened. Nesk
XLT, maybe it's the .dll. It might be a corrupted or the wrong one. Try downloading another one.
XLT
How do I do that? I have downloaded Feather.ddl and ColorBalance.ddl. I get the same prompts.
Rick Brewster
You're not supposed to open the dll. You just drop it in the folder, and then restart Paint.NET. As long as your version of Paint.NET is compatible with the plugin*, it'll show up. * Which means you should make sure you have the latest version of Paint.NET. XLT
I have v3.07. The plugins are downloaded from the Sticky plugins in the Paint.net Plugin Forum. They are put in the C:/Program Files/Paint.NET/Effects folder. They do not appear in the Effects drop menu. Are the Paint.NET included Effects on the dropdown menu supposed to appear in the folder? The plugins that I have downloaded appear in the Effects folder.
Rick Brewster
Do you have a file called PdnLib.dll in your C:/Program Files/Paint.NET directory? You shouldn't have it -- and the installer is supposed to take care of this for you, but it's worth asking. XLT
C:/Program Files/Paint.NET/PdnLib.dll. Icon not found. I did: Start>Search PdnLib.dll. Not found. I did: Start>Search Paint.NET/PdnLib.dll. Not found. I loaded v3.07 today.
BoltBait
Find the effect dll files in explorer. Right click on a file that is not working and choose "Properties" from the menu. On the general tab, at the bottom, look for an "Unblock" button. Click it. Click the Apply button or the OK button. Restart Paint.NET and see if the effect shows up. XLT
The "Unblock" buttons were all clicked during the install. The "Unblock" buttons no longer appear. I restarted Paint.NET and the downloaded plugins still do not appear in the Effects drop menu. There is a PaintDotNet.Effects.dll in the Paint.NET directory. XLT
Feather.dll = 8,704 bytes and size on disk = 12,288 ColorBalance.dll = 24,576 bytes. On disk = 24,576 Polygon.dll = 28,672 bytes. On disk = 28,672 I have deleted all three plugins before and reinstalled them with the same effect. BoltBait
Well, the sizes look right. Hmmm... I'm stumped. BTW, Color Balance shows up in the Adjustments menu, not in the Effects menu. Did you check there? Quote Click to play: Download: BoltBait's Plugin Pack | CodeLab | and how about a Computer Dominos Game
XLT
I did not notice, but Color Balance is in the Adjustments menu. Polygon.dll and Feather.dll are not. Thanks Rick Brewster and BoltBait, Something just came up and I will continue tomorrow. Have a nice evening. David.
BoltBait
Polygon is in the Effects > Render sub menu... Feather is in the Effects > Blurs sub menu... Check there.
