[UNOFFICIAL] Paint.NET-Plugin-Pack (PPP)

Recommended Posts

I started this because when my hard drive died a few days ago, all of my plugins (and pdn) were lost. It took me 30 minutes just to get them back on my computer (half of them are still in zip files). I just don't want anybody else to experience that.

This was suggested months ago, but never took any shape. My idea is to create a collection of plugins. It will be in an installer that is almost completely automated.

Now before I do any of this, I want some of the plugin's creators to give approval to this.

Approved:

BoltBait

evanolds

Illnab1024

MadJik

rpetrich

The PPP is not yet available to the public. But in the meantime you can get a zip folder that contains the plugins that will be in the PPP right here.

If you have any questions about the PPP, email me at:

Which plugins did I write that aren't already included in Paint.NET itself?

I would guess: pdnbench, codelab, and the samples that come with codelab? (I don't see Tom's name on the list.)

BTW, I've written 16 different plugins... Which ones were you considering using? (FYI, here's the list.)

Also, I would encourage you to write an install package instead of a simple zip file. This way, users could select the ones they want and the installer would make sure they were being installed into the proper directory.

Yup! (Did Tom write any plugins?)

All of them...

I was thinking about that too.

EDIT: Ohh... *Tom added*

PdnBench isn't really a plugin, and BoltBait is maintaining CodeLab now. All the other plugins we've done have been subsequently integrated into Paint.NET. So you don't really need mine or Tom's permission because there's nothing to include in the plug-in pack :)

The installer should use the following registry key to determine where Paint.NET is installed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Paint.NET / TARGETDIR

Remember, not everybody installs to C:/Program Files/Paint.NET.

And make sure your installer is 64-bit aware. Otherwise it will put things in to C:/Program Files (x86)/Paint.NET and then nothing will work for 64-bit users (like ME!) and great unhappiness will ensue.

In FF I had to right click>show image.

I tried to go to the link directly and IE told me that I needed to login to the web site to see the image (403 error).

UH, I would say, slow down. Do it right. Don't be in a rush to push something substandard out the door. People will wait.

Along with what Rick said, it should detect if PdN is running and warn you to close it before attempting to install plugins.

Feel free to use my plugins as long as you mention the author(s)...

And yes, perhaps we should 'validate' plugin as packageable. I mean I've just published new plugin, it could have bugs, or could be beta version... still evoluting (re-uploaded -> re-download) etc...

My status:

I got a working installer (and two banners!), but I'm way off from releasing it (especially because I need to add MadJic's files).

EDIT: Oh, and because I'm making it, I'm going to use my PDN logo vector, hehe .

Why? You're just going to confuse people. You should use the official Paint.NET logo, or none at all.
