Paint.NET v3.05 Beta is now available

Recommended Posts

You know the drill. Either get it at the website, http://www.getpaint.net/ , or via the built-in updater. This is a beta. To get it via the built-in updater you must first allow Paint.NET to offer you beta releases by going to Help->Check for Updates..., then click Options, and then enable the appropriate checkbox. Then close out of both dialogs and do another update check.

For a screenshot rundown of the changes, check out this forum post: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=3829

I expect the final (non-Beta) release of v3.05 to be within the next week.

Changes:

    * New: Pencil Sketch effect
    * New: In Windows Vista, the new-style Save/Open dialogs are used
    * Changed: The View->Units, Image->Flip, Image->Rotate, and Layers->Flip submenus have been "flattened" (their commands were moved out into the View, Image, Image, and Layers menus respectively)
    * Improved: Download size reduced by about 300 KB by using PNGOUT
    * Improved: Some uses of confusing "MessageBox" style dialogs have been changed to a much friendlier "TaskDialog" style interface
    * Improved: When changing the language, Paint.NET can now restart itself automatically
    * Improved: Performance for Move Selected Pixels tool for quad-core systems
    * Removed: The "Clear History" button has been removed because it was not very useful
    * Fixed: Sometimes the Colors window would get "lost" between sessions of Paint.NET
    * Fixed: Stack-overflow crash when using certain effects, such as Gaussian Blur, on very large images with certain settings (such as a 200 pixel radius)
    * Fixed: When cancelling the multi-image Unsaved Changes dialog, the input focus was sometimes confused
    * Changed: Renamed PdnLib.dll to PaintDotNet.Core.dll
    * Fixed: Very rare race condition in background thumbnail renderer

The Pencil Sketch effect is awesome. Can't wait for the final release. ;) Super job (as always.)

v An excellent open–source strategy game—highly recommended.

I know it's been talked about the 'magnetic lasso' in the 'popular features' thread but is there any plan or timeframe or version when a 'magnetic lasso' will be implemented?

I've just read the roadmap up to v4.00 and could not find anything about this.

There is

Tom wants to do this but we have no ETA.

and

ETA stands for Estimated Time of Arrival. By saying "No ETA" I'm basically stating that we currently have no plan for when this feature will be implemented. This doesn't mean "not gonna happen" but it also is not a promise that it will happen.

Thanks for pointing the v4.0 roadmap.

No. Way. I've just seen Bob. And... *poof!*—just like that—he disappears into the mist again. ~Helio

excellent

can you all tell how much I've progressed in using a computor

I managed to download the new version and worked with the sketch effect.

really like this one.

have already converted a few old photos to sketch and manipulated various elemets from three photos into one sketch for a friend that is illustrating a family history book.

keep up the great work Rick and design crew.

Are you saying I shouldn't do any optimization work?

This was a performance scaling issue identified by some guys at Intel and fully explained here, http://blogs.msdn.com/rickbrew/archive/ ... lyzed.aspx

The fix is trivial and low-risk and there's no reason to not implement it. The fact that it only affects quad-or-more-core computers is incidental.

I liked the Clear History Button. One time, I forgot to keep clearing my history, so I accidentally scrolled up and my finger slipped and double clicked one of the history things. It was at the top of the list. It took about five minutes for the entier thing to reach there, and then another five to redo everything. Ten minutes lost.

So why wasn't this topic an announcement or at least sticky'd?

Because the final is available now. You keep replying to the Beta announcement which keeps it pegged to the top.

No reason to keep this thread open anymore...
