datvm
Has anyone experienced this problem? When I choose Edit from the Windows Explorer context menu, Windows Paint is opened instead of Paint .NET.
Rick Brewster
Yes. For some reason Windows 10 either does something different, or has locked this down and disallowed it. I've got a bug filed to look at this at some point. racerx
I have a shortcut to PDN in my Right-Click "SendTo" menu command. This way I just right-click on any image and send it to PDN for editing.
pdnnoob
I fixed this for me by changing this registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command Quote No, Paint.NET is not spyware...but, installing it is an IQ test. ~BoltBait Blend modes are like the filling in your sandwich. Djisves
I haven't fiddled with any Win 10 or any PDN settings. When I right-click an image file I always have the option to Open with > paint.net. Not as good as simply "edit" but good enough for me. Rick Brewster
I noticed GIMP has an "Edit with GIMP" command that they add below "Edit". racerx
I fixed this for me by changing this registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command Yes that works fine. I like my "SendTo" shortcuts better though. I have a few program shortcuts in my SendTo link that I use for various needs. To each their own however...... One problem I noticed it doesn't work with .psd files. You can however use the SendTo command with .psd files to PDN. pdnnoob
.psd isn't a default image filetype, so I guess it isn't included. There is likely a registry you can change for that too, but at this point, we're talking about a lot of work changing individual filetype registries. Rick Brewster
I'm not sure if this is still happening if you 1) update to Windows 10 TH2 (aka "Windows 10 Version 1511", it's in Windows Update), and 2) re-run the Paint.NET installer At least, on my system, right click -> Edit -> goes to Paint.NET. Can anyone else verify? If this is the case then it'll auto-fix for many people when the next Paint.NET update drops. Djisves
Right click > Edit in my up-to-date Windows 10 opens any jpg and png in Paint.NET.
