LaneLester
I'm a long-time GIMP user, but I want to consider Paint.NET as an alternative. I just installed version 4.0.6 in 64-bit Windows 7 SP1. I've read the Rules and the FAQ, and I did a search for "text color." It's obvious to me that when I use the Text tool, the text should be the Primary color. But it isn't. There is no color at all. The cursor is sized appropriately for the text size, and the cursor moves along as I type. There is also the little cross handle for moving the text. But the text is invisible. MJW
Does that happen if you just start PDN and use the text tool on the default window, with no intervening steps? When I do that, I get black text. If you do also, then you need to describe the exact situation where you don't get text. Do you have a current selection?, do you have multiple layers?, etc.
LaneLester
Thank you for your reply. I'm pleased to report it does work in the test you suggested. And now it's working in the image where it didn't work before! Like so many computer problems, I fiddle around, the problem goes away, and I learn nothing by the process. BoltBait
The problem was probably this: you can only change an image within the active selection (or the entire canvas if the selection is not active). You probably had a selection somewhere else while trying to type text outside of that selection. If this happens again, simply press Ctrl-D (deselect) before using the text tool. Eli
Hello LaneLester, perhaps your primary color was the same as your background. For example white text on white background.
LaneLester
Very funny, Eli. That would be the equivalent of not plugging in the computer. BoltBait, the same thing has happened to me twice now with new images. Since I hadn't read your reply, my workaround was to save my work, exit PDN and restart it. The next time, I'll try Ctrl-D. Not Much Later: That did the trick. Thanks a lot! Lane Edited September 30, 2015 by LaneLester
