racerx
I got some great shots of Eagles today, so I'll share a couple of them... And here I happened upon a dancing Eagle...
Eli
Great pictures RacerX! I see that your plane takes you to high places for photography. Thanks for sharing!
Pixey
Wow! Amazing shots @Racerx. Those birds fascinate me enormously. There is a nest on top of an electrical pole in Florida (where we are moving to next week) and I will try to get a shot of it when it's in the nest, the next time I pass by . Thanks for sharing! racerx
I got a lot of good shots in, but also had a few missed opportunities. One of the Bald Eagles flew over my head carrying a fish, but I had just put my camera away in the bag. Maybe next time... @ Pixey, Nest shots are great, especially when the eggs hatch. I'm hopping to get some when I find a nest.

midora
Cool shots. @ Pixey, Nest shots are great, especially when the eggs hatch. I'm hopping to get some when I find a nest. But please do not disturb them while they are breeding.
Pixey
Cool shots. But please do not disturb them while they are breeding. It's OK @Midora - I will not attempt to climb up the ginormous electrical pylon to look at the nest . If I get a shot, it'll be from underneath with a zoom . 1 Quote How I made Jennifer & Halle in Paint.net My Gallery | My Deviant Art "Rescuing one animal may not change the world, but for that animal their world is changed forever!" anon. midora
I missed to delete the pixey in the qoute. This was just a remark valid for all of us.;-) In Switzerland there are Golden Eagles only. Luckily the population is stable.
racerx
Today I shot video of an Eagle swooping down and snagging a large fish out of the river. I was on my kayak and couldn't keep the camera steady though. Here are a few frames.
Pixey
Goodness @Racerx - what an amazing shot. I can't help but feel sorry for the fish . @Midora - I didn't know there were Eagles in Switzerland. The only wildlife I saw when living there were hedgehogs and zillions of spiders Quote How I made Jennifer & Halle in Paint.net My Gallery | My Deviant Art "Rescuing one animal may not change the world, but for that animal their world is changed forever!" anon. midora
@Midora - I didn't know there were Eagles in Switzerland. The only wildlife I saw when living there were hedgehogs and zillions of spiders Spiders are more like a kind of pet living in the cellar. Solothurn is well-known for storks. Here a typical swiss eagle (sketched in paint.net). BTW: hedgehog translated to german is Igel which is pronouced like eagle ;-) Edited July 27, 2015 by midora
racerx
@ midora, that's a pretty bird. What do you mean by "sketched"? I like shooting wildlife, but my knowledge of it is limited. Does anyone know what kind of water bird this is that I shot?
Ego Eram Reputo
Dammit. Janet. It's a gannet. Shame it isn't. Looks to me like a Shag. Y'know the ones that are always hanging out their wings to dry? No, I don't think its a Gannet. More like a Cormorant. Nice sketch @Midora. I think perhaps you used Effects - Artistic - Ink Sketch? Nice effect anyway. racerx
You are calling the King of Skies a pretty bird? That's lese majesty. Beauty and strength go hand in hand in many animals. Case in point lion, shark and cobra. The Eagle falls into this class I think. @ Pixey, I think you are right about the Cormorant. Here is my Eagle sketch in Paint.net. I'm planning on using the original in a photo contest. I think it represents the aggressive nature of the Eagle showing the business end. Red ochre
I vote for a Shag - but that's just my sense of humour! Hasn't the Cormorant got a whiter face? - hard to see in the .gif.Great images - interesting thread! Quote Red ochre Plugin pack.............. racerx
The Osprey's were out in full force today. They were dive bombing for fish everywhere it seemed. This one caught a fish large enough to make any fisherman green with envy.....

racerx
Thanks Red! Today I shot a Golden Eagle eating a fish it just cought. The angle I had to shoot was into the sun and created an under-exposed image due to the extreme back-lighting. That's OK though because it gave another reason to try out the Laplacian Filter. As you can see, it made a great improvement by bringing out the hidden details in the shadows...
