Paint crashing immediately after starting: "Sorry, but paint.net has encountered an unhandled exception and must close."

EDIT: I restarted and it works now. Hurrah for turning it off and on again

Hi.

So I recently got paint.net, I had upgraded my PC from Vista to 7. Was using it quite finely last night (on 7), and suddenly today the above error happened. I start paint.net, see the beginning screen, and then it pops up and paint.net closes.

Might be part of the updates. Not sure.

Problem.

While restarting does fix it, which I'm pretty happy about, the error comes back after a while.

 

Not sure if it's a different error, it does seem similar/exactly the same however.

 Found something that may help a lot.
I found out it starts crashing when I open Mirillis Action. (hope that's not advertising or something)
Close Action, it works. Open it, it crashes. So I'll do that instead of restarting. If it can be fixed somehow, that'd be nice though. Don't know much about code.

Try turning off Hardware Acceleration in Paint.NET's settings.

Greetings....This thread appears to discuss the same problem I'm having ... I'm running the latest version of paint .net  with Windows 7 ....everytime I click the random effect button i get this message

but paint.net has encountered an unhandled exception and must close..

I also get this when i click the the curves+ in the adjustmensts tab...It instructs me to re-start ..when I do..... same problem persists... I have been using paint.net for some time and I recently uploaded the lastest version.. thinking it was a problem with the older version....apparently the same problem exists with the latest version as well... I also tried turning off Hardware acceleration as the above post suggests ..it actually reads "hardware accelerated rendering (GPU)".... I presume this is the same setting. I unticked it and nothing changes I still get the same error messages...

Bummer because I really like to use the randon effect plugin.. is there a quick fix for this? any assistance would be greatly appreciated..

Check your Plugin Errors in the Settings dialog.

I suspect that the Random Effect plugin may be trying to load an incompatible plugin. If you have plugin errors, delete those DLL files and restart paint.net for another try.

Some plugins have been updated for paint.net 4.0+. You'll need to download these later versions where conflicts with the old DLL exist.
