Paint.net 4 hard-locks system on Plugin Error page

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just updated to PDN v4 - I was exploring menus when PDN hard-locked my PC. Every time I go back to the Plugin Error page, it hard locks it. No error report, because a hard lock is obviously quite fatal and immediate.

I have attached all my plugins. I'm now going to look for updates to see if new versions might help.

Confirmed; same exact problem. I was going here to post a topical bug which I recently discovered (which I will do shortly) when I stumbled upon this and had to click it because it happened to me less than five minutes ago. What a coincidence!

Looking at the plugins page, It said that "FlipPlugin.dll" and "CustomBrushes.dll" had loading errors. My keyboard and mouse stopped responding through usb. My internal keyboard and mouse (I use a laptop) were also incapable of responding. My music played without skipping a beat, so it seems to be some sort of hardware lock; I'm not sure why.

Do you know if your system has trouble running WPF applications? I used WPF to write that part of the Settings dialog for the sake of time, but I was planning to un-WPF-ify it at some point if it seemed necessary. That it's causing hard locks seems to count ...

What's this have to do with my post?

(Other than me posting my plugins for the devs to examine.)

Excuse me :)  I assumed it was to do with you downloading bad Plugins - sorry I spoke :(

As far as I know it doesn't - that's just a toolkit for .net, right? If you can point me to any other apps built on that, I can check.

Hmm, I'm not really sure ... I use Visual Studio, Expression Blend, and Windows Performance Analyzer, all of which are written in WPF. Maybe a Google search for "list of WPF applications" would yield a good list, but I haven't had enough coffee to really parse the results well enough myself.

What's troubling is that the Plugin Errors page forces WPF to use software rendering and it's still hard locking on you. I needed a good excuse to de-WPF-ify it, so I'll probably do that for the next update or the one after that. I'll be releasing a 4.0.1 update fairly soon to address the biggest issues that've been reported, like crashes and stuff. For now I guess just avoid the Plugin Errors page :(

I'll download the plugins you attached and try it out myself. Who knows, maybe it's just taking awhile to generate the error report or something.

Edit: I'm inclined to say it's WPF related. I got to the Plugin Errors page just fine with all of those plugins. It only complained about Ed Harvey's DLL, and there's an updated version of that. So for now, just update Ed's plugins and you should be fine. I'll still de-WPF-ify that stuff at some point, it just feels weird having only 1 tiny part of the UI written with it.

The only safe place to download plugins is from this site.  Better safe than never

Don't worry, all of my plugins are from this forum.  I can count them on my fingers, too.

I use VS and I've made (sort of lame) WPF applications, so I know that it isn't the issue.
