You can use the File->New Window and File->Open in New Window menu commands to do this. We are also planning to incorporate some type of MDI (multiple document interface) in a future release. As for removing JPEG artifacts, that sounds like one of those ivory tower research projects. I don't really see us doing that ourself, although there's nothing stopping someone from writing an effect plugin that does this.
