UnluckyStorm Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Hey there, I was wondering, is Paint.net meant to consume so much RAM? I'm currently editing multiple 7200x10800 images and each one has a delay when performing certain actions. It's the same if I edit an image on it's own and shut all others down. My (relevant) computer specs are: CPU: Intel i5 3570k - 3.4Ghz GPU: Nvidia GTX660Ti - 2GB RAM: 1300Mhz - 2x8GB Quote
david.atwell Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 You're not getting the errors, but you should still take a look at this post. I think it might answer your question. :-) (7200x10800 is HUGE, even for 16GB of RAM, and especially if you're running several at once.) 1 Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.Amy: But how did it end up in there? The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

It typically runs quite smoothly, it's not unbearable fortunately. That post has given me some insight into the architecture of the program, at least! Quote
Rick Brewster Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Make sure you're using an SSD for your boot/OS drive. 1 Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
UnluckyStorm Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 Make sure you're using an SSD for your boot/OS drive. I've got an SSD for my OS, and the main Paint.net files are in my SSD also. Quote
Rick Brewster Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 It's using 10 GB of memory? Wow. You must be loading a LOT of images, and/or loading VERY large images (edit: yup, you said multiple 7k x 10k images, those are definitely large) 4.0 will be faster and use less memory, but I mean c'mon ... realistic expectations should be applied first! 1 Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html

Hahaha, what can I say...I like pixel perfection! Oh brilliant, there's a 4.0 coming along the way? Haha, yeah, I'm pretty sure there aren't many programs that can cope with images of this size... Rick Brewster Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 There's a 4.0 alpha release you can download already Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
UnluckyStorm Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 There's a 4.0 alpha release you can download already I had a look into it after you mentioned 4.0, looks very promising!
