BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 15, 2013 I'm looking for an iPhone app to catalog my DVD collection. Ideally, it would allow me to (in preference order) - use the camera to scan a bar code on the DVD case to populate the database. (Must have feature) - export the entire list to my computer (Must have feature) - see details/pictures of the individual movies or link to IMDb web site for info - free (or at least cheap) - keep track of loaning DVDs out to people. - search - also handle CD's Any recommendations? david.atwell 286 Report post Posted October 15, 2013 This might be the least helpful post ever, but this Android app does that with books. Is there an iPhone analogue? Does it work on DVDs? iPhone...DVDs... Android...books... Yep. I'm "that guy" on the Internet, aren't I?
BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 15, 2013 That is absolutely perfect! ...if I had an android phone ...and a book collection.

BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 16, 2013 You should get both. Psh! I only buy books for my Kindle now. So, no need for a catalog program since it is included in the Kindle.

BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 16, 2013 Thought you sold your Kindle? App? Yes, I did. But, I still have the Kindle app on my iPhone. And, if I ever buy another Kindle, it will be one of those Paper White ones. They're cool.
BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 21, 2013 I did a quick search and found My Movies for iPhone Free/Pro. Does it do what you want? OK, I purchased this and LOVE IT! This is just what I needed. Scanning my DVD collection by bar code couldn't be easier and the data display and searching is awesome. Plus, I can lend my DVD's out to my contacts. The only thing I haven't tried yet is the web access to my list. But, everything else is perfect. So, THANKS Simon.
david.atwell 286 Report post Posted October 22, 2013 For any Android users who are curious, it's available for us, too (Free/Pro). :-)
BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 OK, I have scanned MOST of my collection and enabled the online viewer for my collection. Just go here: http://oc.mymovies.dk/ Currently no password is required for viewing my collection. This will eventually change. IMPORTANT: Once you've viewed my collection you must post here to let me know what you liked and didn't like. If, on the other hand, you were not able to find my collection, post here so that we can mock you.
Ego Eram Reputo 2,412 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 Liked: 28 Days/Weeks later. Fast zombies are fearsome. I got the whole Rage virus thing. THX113 - Awesome! Check my sig! Thing - creepy and atmospheric. OK, so not the best film but a great watch. Starship Troopers - a BLAST! Snatch - took me two or three viewings to figure out the plot. This is a great movie. Respect to Brad for the accent. Silverado - a good western. Not my favourite (Unforgiven). Thumbs up also to Serenity (check YOUR sig), Scarface, Rocky Horror, Riddick (cheesy but fun). That's just a few I liked.....
welshblue 2,946 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 Some classics The Green Mile ( I cried like a baby at the end) Shawshank Redemption Spaghetti Westerns Paint My Wagon Nikita The Mentalist Archer Big Bang theory A Clockwork Orange Enter the Dragon Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels Mad Max Terminators ... not so great. The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill (awful accents and not a fan of the fop haired one)
BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 Yeah, some of those "chick flicks" belong to my wife. I scanned them anyway. BTW, it only took me 2 hours total to catalog my entire collection. I still have a few movies to scan that are currently out on loan. And 6-7 TV series that I can't find. Must be in a box in the garage. (Moonlighting, Remington Steele, Father Murphy, Murder She Wrote, Little House on the Prairie, etc.) Oh, and I didn't bother scanning any of the kids movies... all the Pixar/Disney/etc.

Kemaru 44 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 (500) Days of Summer (this was the film my ex and I watched together when I went to his place for the first time) Spirited Away Clint Eastwood Inception You should scan the children's films as well!
BoltBait 2,604 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 You should scan the children's films as well! The problem with this is that the kids generally throw the cases away and store the DVD's in a big soft case with all their DVD's in it. So, I have no bar codes to scan. avrudi 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) I made this iOS application and it's all free on the Apple App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mydvds-lists/id575847127?mt=8 It's still too simple and I'm working on it to add barcode scanner and some other features. Hope you enjoy using it Edited October 24, 2013 by avrudi
