szyb
Hi! I have problem with update using help->Check for updates. Program returns message box with: HTTP 500 (InternalServerError) I have tried update several times, but every time PDN returns this error. I'm using 3.0 RC 1 release. The same problem i had with PDN 3.0 Beta 2 and Beta 3 release. This is not about my firewall (Kerio 4.x), because its turning off does not help. Any ideas how to check for updates with PDN? best regards, Szymon Belus

szyb
When all else fails, go straight to the download link:http://www.getpaint.net/download.html Yes. I do that, but when update worked, I clicked once and I have new version. Now I have to uninstall previous version, download newest one and finally install it. That takes much more time. I am wondering why this error occurs.
Rick Brewster
You don't have to uninstall before installing the new version, it handles that automatically. In fact you can just run the installer with the /skipConfig command-line parameter to have it do exactly the same thing that the auto-update does. That is, it doesn't ask you any questions, you don't have to accept the license agreement (because you already have in the update scenario!), it just installs it. As for the HTTP 500 error: I don't know. I haven't seen it myself. Your two reports are the only ones that I know of. The server that the updates are coming from is a large mirror network managed by BetaNews. In any case I've reported this to the BetaNews guys, hopefully the problem will be gone if it isn't already! barkbark00
Check this out: http://www.checkupdown.com/status/E500.html <----explains what HTTP 500 is Its an internal(your server) server restriction or error. Its probably not BetaNews. Quote  Take responsibility for your own intelligence. -Rick Brewster

HITMAN-X-
The website you are visiting had a server problem that prevented the webpage from displaying. It often occurs as a result of website maintenance or because of a programming error on interactive websites that use scripting. The site could of been down for a bit or you could have a setting wrong in your firewall or router. Quote DEXTUT.COM
Pigom
And I'm also from Poland and I have the same error. I can't update paint.net from menu -> HTTP 500 error. There is no problem with manualy dawnloading. Quote www.PaintNet.info.pl

HITMAN-X-
This is starting to sound like firewalls. No. I have no firewall, except this from Win XP. Well then may I ask a few questions ?. Have you turned of the builded in firewall for windows and tryed to update ? Do you have all of the windows updates as they often fix bugs in windows ?, If not you should go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Are you using a router ? If so do you have the router internal firewall setup right ? (Belive it or not most people don't even know that there routers have there own firewalls inside of them) Do you have an up to date web browser ?. I know IE is now using IE: 7. Bob
Notice they are all coming from Poland, and I've seen similar (Polish) issues in previous posts too. FYI. Quote No. Way. I've just seen Bob. Rick Brewster
It's just an issue with the BetaNews servers in Poland. blizni
blizni, are you able to download this file manually? http://www.getpaint.net/updates/PaintDotNet_3_01.zip Yes, I'm able to download file manually. I've checked my traffic and Paint.NET connects with official paint.net page with url: http://www.getpaint.net/updates/version ... x86.pl.txt , which gives 500 Internal Error <- something in the server configuration is wrong or something, becouse page: http://www.getpaint.net/updates/version ... x86.en.txt works great. I've checked these url's: http://www.getpaint.net/updates/version ... x86.it.txt http://www.getpaint.net/updates/version ... x86.pt.txt http://www.getpaint.net/updates/version ... x86.ru.txt and so on - these files are identical, I've checked some other country codes and most of this are the same or gives 404 error. So what's wrong with the pl file? I think that making pl file as symlink to en should help for many users.
Bob
I think that making pl file as symlink to en should help for many users. I think it's what happens, but as you said it may be a misconfiguration somewhere. Quote No. Way. I've just seen Bob. Rick Brewster
I've submitted a support ticket with HostMySite. We'll see what they say. There have been about 250,000 attempted accesses for this file during this calendar year -- all of them received a server 500 response!
