running water

Paint.NET isn't really an animation program.  There is an animated GIF plugin, but it's really not made for that and there is no automated way to do any animation patterns.

Also, this is really more of a question of art styles...for instance, your water could look like this:

wind-waker.jpeg?w=558&h=9999&crop=0

Or it could look like this:

The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-after-tweaks-

As you can see, very different ideas both way.  You'd probably be better served asking this questions on an art forum.  :-)

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

If it's animation like above you want but not confident about making it yourself, then the Reflecting Water animation in LunaPic could be worth trying

original

imageedit_8_9838785566.gif

... notice I cropped the base off the original so's the ripples catches it right

i had a look at LunaPic as you suggested - this is the effect i am trying to achieve & LunaPic does it all for you - yet another question??  when you have uploaded to that site - can you then save???  many thanks for your learned advice, kindest regards

I recommend Simon Brown's plugin: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/13454-animated-image-24-agif-apng/page-1

If you don't like that, UnFREEz works alright.

No, Paint.NET is not spyware...but, installing it is an IQ test. ~BoltBait

I use Photoscape, it is free.

In my image I created the frames in PDN using Water Reflection plugin, then animated them in Photoscape.

I use a complicated method to create the frames for the animations, by using PDN simultaneously with another application that saves me more than 90% of the time.
