Lots of suggestions

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of things in my head that I want to dump out into text (I forgot some of them already).

Selection Tools:

I have said several times that I would like to see a magnetic lasso, but I know that that isn't going to happen any time soon, so here are a few easy ones:

Polygon Selection tool- make a nice little straight line to each point until you hit something like enter or the middle-click (or of course, click on the first point). Viola! A nice and straight selection without the pain of the lasso or the magic wand!

Curve selection tool- I thought of this while using PS. They never had a curve/vector-like selection tool in their assortment of lassos. Possibly integrate it with the Polygon Select?

Brush Select- I know that you can do that by making another layer and scribbling in what you want, but it isn't the same as an actual selection tool. Just a quick thought.

Longer code for Magic Wand-More [potentially] great features that PS doesn't have yet:

a.

Make it more of a conditional-type magic wand- Have a pull-down menu that shows different modes of selection: Normal, RGB, Opacity, and B&W. Make it so that it "magically" selects only that type of color/object. I can't explain it any further, but I think you know what I mean. Possibly a check-off menu so you can use two modes a once?

b.

"Auto-select from pallet" option- I know it is possible to select with shift+click, but if you want something that doesn't exist, your just left to rot with making it in a small corner with the pencil.

c.

I forgot already :(

In Layers Window:

Layer groups- Self-explanatory. I always wanted it.

Drag and drop layer ordering- Also self-explanatory. Always wanted that too.

Last Call!!!1!!!

Every two beta releases, make PDN available for win2k- I don't have win2k (yet), but I think it would be nice to at least keep it more up-to-date.

I can't find it, but there was a topic where someone posted the code for brush types. I thought of a solution for Rick's response that you would need to re-code all of this stuff. If it is possible, could you make a new file type for a newer, more complex file? MS Office '07 has a new file extention (or is it just for Mac?). .docx/.dox

I know a lot of this is already possible with other tools, but it isn't as fast or professional as an actual tool. Why else do we create plugins?

This doesn't make any sense at all. You're saying I should add Win2K support code back in, and then in 4 weeks I would rip out the Win2K code, and then every 4 weeks I should put it back in, release a build, and then immediately yank it back out? That's akin to putting stairs in to a 10-story building ... then removing them. Then putting them back in. Then removing them... every 4 weeks. Just for funsies? This isn't just some switch I would flip to enable Win2K support, it's real code and real work.

I'm completely baffled by why you would suggest this, I mean seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if you think I should start adding Win3.1 support next. Then removing it. Then adding it back in. Then removing it.

Speaking of layers I've always liked the idea of being able to Freeze and unfreeze layers so that you can't accidentally draw on the wrong one.

I would like that too. ( Same reason  )

Also drag and drop layers would be great.

@Rick: Well at least make 5.0 available for 2k. At some point you should (when it goes retail?) The good news is that you didn't denounce any of the other suggestions.

I wouldn't be surprised if you think I should start adding Win3.1 support next.

That is an idea.....

I just remebered another idea of mine!

Well this is more of a plugin, and is the type of thing you would ask Yahoo!, but here it goes.

Create a plugin for the Konfabulator widget creation script. I'm looking at the Photoshop version, and I can tell that it would take a very long time to get it pdn compatible.

Look.

Win2K support has been removed, usedHONDA. Permanently. The Win2K userbase is shrinking. 5.0 is what ... years away? Your suggestion makes absolutely no sense at all. Do you even use Windows 2000? The OS is 7 years old. I don't think you even understand what you're asking.
