Posting Thumbnails

I have read in various threads how people cannot post thumbnail images and get a warning saying - `You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.'

Well I get the same problem but have found a way around it so I thought I would just let everyone know so they could go ahead and (hopefully) do the same.

The problem seems to happen when you use the reply box at the bottom of the page. After writing whatever text I want to I then copy and paste in the thumbnail code into the box. Make sure your curser is almost on top of the flashing vertical line( don`t know what it`s called) where you want to paste the code. Don`t just right click anywhere in the box as this will not work.

Once you have done this , click on `More Reply Options' at the bottom right hand side, You will still see the warning but just ignore it , preview your post then finally post. And it should work. I have included a thumb of my own to show that it does ( for me anyway, hopefully for you too). You might have to preview a couple of times, as I did with this one but it gets there in the end. Good Luck.

I got that warning too, the last time I posted in My Gallery a day or so ago.  I just ignored it and the thumbnail worked OK in the end

No please, that THUMB code will force us to download the large "original" file size, but view it as a thumbnail.

This is no longer the case. Images from Photobucket or imgur will only download the thumbnail sized image for display, and link to the full size.

I am really not good at coding,

So both, the generated thumbnail code from an image hosting site and the forum THUMB code are the same?

No, the code is not the same. But it is displaying the thumbnail generated by Photobucket or Imgur and only downloading the full size when the thumbnail is clicked. For other hosts, it downloads the full size and scales it down in the browser. I can add proper thumbnail support for other hosts on request.

PS I'm sorry I messed up your post. Sleep deprivation...

What do you mean "normally?"

I mean without getting warnings for trying to post perfectly acceptable jpg`s, png`s or gif`s and having to jump through hoops to do so. If I was trying to post some weird filetype not allowed in the Forum Rules I would expect it, but not for everyday ones used by everyone on websites across the internet. That`s what I mean "normally".

Dross my donkey! By the same token, I feel the same about some of my works not all but many.

I keep it there so the growth is evident for myself & as an encouragement for new ones.

Normally, for me was to just insert the PB copied links. PB likes to fix what wasn't busted & makes a right mess with it.

When are you getting this warning? When using Photobucket's "IMG thumb" code?

I got the warning again when I posted a reply to Renne's question here , 1/2 an hour ago, as I was adding the Photobucket link to this PDN site ..... but I ignored the warning and the photo is acting as normal.

OK, once again, don't use the "IMG thumb" code from Photobucket. It's not valid BBCode here or anywhere that I know of. Photobucket is stupid.

Also, the forum is going to choke when using [ url ] or [ img ] tags with URLs that have spaces in them. While spaces aren't strictly kosher, and ImageShack and Phobucket are stupid to not convert spaces into "%20"s, this forum is also stupid and doesn't know how to deal with it anymore.

You can replace spaces with %20 and it should work, or avoid having spaces in your album names or file names, or use a host that isn't stupid like imgur.com.
