I think you would have to do this on two individual layers, and then position the second layers text in alignment with the first layer, there is no means of changing the colour of individual letters on the same layer (unless I'm proved wrong) :/

EDIT: just realized how tedious that was... here's a better way

Type your text in one color (on its own layer) and select what needs a color change using the rectangle selection.

Use hue/saturation adjustment or the curves adjustment to change the color.

Type out the text in a single color then recolor the characters you want with the Recolor tool :RecoloringTool:
