MrTuRtLe03
Hello, I re-formatted one of my two Hard drives, and the drive that I had PDN on was the one I re-formatted. I thought no big deal of it, downloaded the install, went to install and it said Fatal Error:1603. I have ran the check in the elevated CMD (I cant remember what it is) multiple times, and it found no problem. I cant install it to either of my drives and I desperately need it for and English Project. I am running Windows 8 RP on a Home built machine (64 bit). I have also disabled my firewall, rebooted and tried again, and nothing else changed. If anyone can help that would be great thanks! greg
Mr Turtles link is good - but I would clarify it a little .http://forums.getpai...error-1603-fix/ Ravens comments regarding clean up are very valid for these can cause install problems - especially if you clean up the registry manually. The negative comment regarding updating the registry is not valid - it is not only easy to update the registry without failure but it is actually a good lesson for those interested in fixing things when no other way is viable due to poor coding practices. The only thing I do not agree with Raven is the delete all .... please check the directory for you will A)find some files can not be deleted anyway may wish to save some of the files C) may wish to leave some of the files. If you don't know what you are doing you can really mess things up but that is part of the learning don't you think. Next time you will understand more. Anyways.. coming back to the problem: the 1603 error is common so it is best to check it a number of ways and if you are on a MS machine I would suggest that you also use their clean up program for who best would know the mess they can cause. So in summary - look at the following: *** ravens clean up.. http://www.msigeek.com/715/how-to-troubleshoot-the-error-1603-fatal-error-during-installation Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility **** use this to fix the uninstall / install sequence. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651
