pdnnoob
We all hate them, and I know the moderators and admins have been doing a lot of work to keep them away. Recently, I became a moderator on another forum, and the forum admins did something that, so far, has kept 100% of the spam bots away (makes my job easy ) In addition to a capatcha, they require the registering user to answer a simple question about the game. It is a really simple question, so it doesn't prevent anyone from registering, but the spam bots can't figure it out because they haven't played the game. What I'm suggesting, then, is that this forum implement a similar system, asking the people trying to register to answer a simple question about paint.net (ex: What is the tool in the bottom left corner of the tools window) Edited September 8, 2012 by pdnnoob Quote No, Paint.NET is not spyware...but, installing it is an IQ test. ~BoltBait Blend modes are like the filling in your sandwich. NinjaManDan21
Sounds like a great idea to me, of course I know close to nill about the coding and whatnot at this point in my school year, so if the admins and mods can and will do it, that seems like a great method. jim100361
I agree spam bots are a problem, but I'm just curious if they're really bots, or simply somebody (singluar or plural) who feel he/she/they have some axe to grind or something. But I suppose proper/adequate countermeasures may help to make that determination.
Ego Eram Reputo
Its a work in progress. The measures you take today will work for a while, then they get figured out and the spam begins to trickle back. The forum was being spammed by some particularly nasty pornography a while back so some new measures were implimented (by Pyrochild). These have worked very well to date, however a trickle of spam is beginning to get through again. As always - just report it and we'll get onto it. If the trickle becomes a flood we'll try something different. Actually the CAPTCHA that was working so well, ASIRRA, got deleted when the forum software was updated. I haven't bothered putting it back on since spam has only been a minor annoyance since the update. I can put it back if the spam level keeps rising.
