Your mission if you choose to accept:

Design and make a logo for your very own fast food restaurant

(as chosen by ventor1 after yellowman passed the baton on)

Rules

Custom Brushes and Dingbats are allowed for this challenge.

This doesn't mean you can just plonk a grabbed off the internet image onto the canvas.

We will know ...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Winners of any subsequent challenges have the right to choose the topic and stipulate whether it is a PDN only challenge.

Entries can be edited/replaced up to closing time.

If stock images are allowed, individuals should be mindful of copyright laws

As host of any competition - If copyright is breached; it's not my backside on the line ...

One entry per person (unless the challenge is bombing then that will be open to review 3 days before closing date...)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Closing Date for entries Friday September 14th (10 pm GMT)

--------------------------------------------------------

Entries and comments can be posted in this thread.

Interesting entries.

Maybe I've made a rod for my own back by allowing custom brushes ...

stocks allowed?

Not really. But then again what constitutes a Custom Brush ?

I didn't really think it through when I allowed them. So would it be wrong of me to challenge an entry because of it.

But on the other foot I could be doing someone a great disservice when I should be asking a for a tut'

I thought this hosting lark would be easy ...

I have never been able to work out the custom brushes & so never use them. If I get an entry in, there could be a couple of stocks - I have an idea that may or may not come off. I'll leave it up to you & other entrants to decide if it should be allowed.

Well, I could be wrong, but I think the first entry has stock images (I doubt the setting, lighting, etc. of the silverware and dishes were taken at home). Not that I'm against using stocks, I'm just pointing it out.

The first one is mine and I never use stocks when I can render something, which this is. It was submitted more as a goof than a serious entry. I don't think you intended to let renderings in. It was an attempt at levity and to see what the competition here has. It took a whole 5 minutes to make with the rendering taking another 5 minutes.

Totally agree and I disqualify myself. I can make much better renderings all day long. You should leave these to only pdn creations. If they're only pdn you can get people to push abilities and explore their creative side. I think many have not explored layers and the type of overlay enough.

Saves me doing it. Which was going to happen when the poll went up

What was the point of posting an entry that was rendered in another programme ? Takes the mickey slightly IMO

Plus I totally disagree that many haven't explored layers etc. Take a journey through the Pictorium and Layers abound.

Plenty of people are pushing their creativity all through this forum

I'd just like to clarify that when I posted 'No custom brushes, stocks or renders' - I was not making a statement! It meant that I had not used any in my entry. I have no problem if others have used custom brushes in this comp

I don't understand why you think this is a personal attack? I have never done anything to mickey? mouse, rourke or rooney.

Many haven't explored the potential of this program. I have taken some time to see what some are creating. Some have a good handle on layering techniques, but you seemed to think it was personal. That takes the mickey. It that the correct use of slanglish?

Ok, petals - just settle.

Visual, your humour went over the top of our heads. That is, we didn't get the joke. We get a bit antsy (annoyed, upset) when it is perceived that people are trying to make us the object of the joke (taking the mickey out of someone).

Welshy's work involves the use of many layers & layer blend modes & we could learn a lot from him, our former King of PDN.

Sometimes electronic text doesn't convey the emotion or mood that was intended & hence we get some communication breakdown.

Welshy was saying that to use another program to create parts of your image when these could clearly be done easily in PDN and not being up front about the source (bit like plagiarism) is like saying PDN & users are not up to the job - taking the mickey. Or to put it more bloke like & bluntly: slapping any old thing on a canvas & thinking we are too stupid to notice another program has been used.

If you were to use say, Chaoscope (a fractal program) to create parts of an image, then you need to say so esp. in a comp. We all forget to mention source images, reference images, text that is used to create part of an image in our haste to upload new works & too the fact we are pleased as Punch with our new works.
