pdnnoob
So as some of you know, I'm still running Windows XP on my current computer. Well, as it turns out, this computer is getting rather old (obviously), and the cd/dvd drive suddenly ceased to function. That said, I'm getting a replacement (because pretty soon, the cd drive is probably not the only thing that won't be working). Unfortunately, I have no experience picking out computers, so I could use some help...any recommendations? I'm on a 500$ budget... Paint.net 4.0 compatibility is required, so no macs allowed! :3 Quote No, Paint.NET is not spyware...but, installing it is an IQ test. ~BoltBait Blend modes are like the filling in your sandwich. pdnnoob
Thanks so much for the guide! I'm looking for a laptop, though, so I don't think building it myself is an option Quote No, Paint.NET is not spyware...but, installing it is an IQ test. ~BoltBait Blend modes are like the filling in your sandwich. qwertyuu
If you are looking for a laptop, I'm gonna search a little deeper. I always happen to find great deals out there and all of my friend get pretty nice computers because of me! qwertyuu
yay! That deal! http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834131275 pdnnoob: it's a laptop that had some light problems and that was refurbished (which means it works like a charm now). You do save a whole lot of money on it since, as I said, it was refurbished. Save: $280.00 I'll explain it's specifications: It's got a 4 cores processor, running on 1.8Ghz. (1.8ghz may sound quite low, but you have to think it's 4 * 1.8) It has 640Gb of space in it, which is actually not too high, not too low. If you, someday, want more space; I recommend getting an external drive. It has got 6Gb of RAM, which is quite high for a laptop of this price. That's a big plus. It has a dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6620G, which means you won't be stuck with a low-end Intel HD 3000 that is, in reality, the processor acting as a graphic card (VERY BAD GRAPHICS) The screen size is a normal 15.6 inches, but it comes with a VGA and an HDMI output. That means you can plug it in whatever new TV that supports HDMI and get a quite decent view (Messing with PDN on a 1080p 40+ inches screen is just orgasmic). That's about it. I really recommend it, it's a very good deal.

toe_head2001
yay! That deal! http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834131275 Not bad indeed. I would buy that too, if the internal display didn't max out at a pathetic 1366 x 768. Of course these days, that's typical for "home line" laptops, and I usally have to shop business class laptops to get 1920x1200 / 1920x1080. If you want a bigger screen, you'll have to cap out the $500... The cheapest alternative would be to buy some neat HDMI cable on ebay (very cheap and works just as great) and plug that in a bigger screen to get a better result. That's what I do to watch movies and such, since even the sound goes in this cable. Doing graphical work on a 1080p display is one awesome thing to try, too!
