Slow response while making selections within selection

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First of all I really love this program, It is about to end a decade of buying Paint Shop Pro licences it seems, for this small but very irritating issue which is there for atleast 2 releases. I am starting to think I am the only one with this problem, since I can't find anything about my problem, or maybe I don't use the right keywords...

If I make a selection and then want to alter that selection with the ctrl or alt keys to ad or remove a certain part from the selection, Paint.NET reacts very slowely. atleast 30% of my CPU (I7 with 4 cores and Hyperthreading) is used and the action lags behind terrible (2-4 seconds) If I make a single selection, everthing works fine. This does not happen if I use the "selection wand" i can make multiple selection with no problems at all. The bigger the current selection is, the greater the lag is.

For reference:

I am using a Dell Precision M4500 with the following specs:

- I7 processor

- 8GB of memory

- nVidia Quadro FX1800 graphics card

I have Windows 7 x64uk SP1 installed, fully updated and use Paint .NET 3.5.10

Thanks in advance,

Lucas

I've seen this myself since forever. There seems to be an input bug in WinForms that causes mouse input into "slowmo laggy" mode when you're holding down something like Ctrl or Shift.

The super secret solution is to let go of Ctrl, Shift, or Alt after you've started drawing. Paint.NET will still remember that you had the key down at the beginning of the input gesture, and the slowmo lagy will go away.

As time goes on, this will be less necessary. There have been a lot of improvements in this area in 4.0 which will allow me to eliminate the lag entirely in a post-4.0 release.
