Possum Roadkill Posted October 24, 2011 Share Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) Space and Sci Fi Art Competition #17 THEME IS: Halloween (paint and photo manipulation) SAC Comp Rules: All submissions must be created in Paint.net with the exception of renders and stock photos when allowed. When they are allowed, obviously you cannot use the stocks or renders as your entire submission, so the majority of your image should be created in Paint.net. When Theme Rules allow, you must post a link to any stocks, renders, images or parts of images you did not create in Paint.net, i.e. fractals created in a fractal generator program or textures created in another program of any kind. Minimum size is 800 X 600. There is no Maximum Size. Special Rule #5. Do not anger the Possum. Submission Rules All images must be submitted to me in a PM. Do no post your image in this thread ! Do not post your images in your gallery or any other gallery until this comp is over ! I will post your image in the poll, that is the only time your image should be seen before the voting begins. Do not sign your image or put any kind of identifiable marker or logo in your image that people will link to you. You may post your image on any other website where you are a member (i.e. Deviant Art, PdN Fans Forum, Facebook or any other forum or website, just not on this website until the comp has concluded. NO PLACEHOLDERS! Do not send an entry until it is a finished product. NO WIPS (works in progress) ! No images previously submitted will be allowed. I reserve the right to add to the rules as people do things to annoy me. (See special rule # 5.) THEME IS: Halloween (paint and photo manipulation) Theme rules: You are to make a space image depicting Halloween using a combination of STOCK IMAGES and Paint.net. It can be anything related to Halloween, from arachnids to zombies, (get it a to z ). You may include any other non-space objects like people, cars, boats, trees, possums etc. It can be fun, cute, scary, funny, or however you see Halloween. You can make a collage of Halloween or even an abstract of Halloween. Just have fun ! For this round, you MAY AND SHOULD use STOCK IMAGES ! You may use another program to create parts of your image i.e. Apophysis, Gimp, Incendia, Photoshop, etc. The majority of your image should be made in Paint.net (unless it's really freakin cool). The use of other programs should be limited to the creation of textures and minor elements of your image. (Remember, Possum’s have a sixth sense about things like this, do don’t make me hunt you down. So with that in mind, special rule #5 is in effect for this competition ). THIS COMP WILL RUN FOR ONE WEEK which is the day before Halloween ! How scary is that? (Or until I can drag myself to a computer to close it) This thread is for entries only ! If you want to discuss this comp, please go to the discussion thread. The Entry period for this competition run through Sunday October 30th 2011 at 8:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. Although I like Welshblue's picture I do not see where it has anything to do with Halloween or Space,yet it took first. The people judging these comps seem to ignore the themes when voting so what is the sense of the artist's following the theme to the letter? I have seen many pictures win that were way off base in relation to the themes,but maybe that is just my opinion and I'm missing something.This could be why many don't enter the comps and I believe it is something that should be looked into for the continued survival of the comps. skullbonz Posted November 13, 2011 Share Posted November 13, 2011 Ididn't mean it as any disrespect to the people who vote,more as an observation of the way people vote. I am mixed up in politics so believe me I see how the majority votes making me shake my head sometimes,lol. I am probably the odd duck in the mix, seeing as I am usually part of the minority vote,lol. I do love these comps no matter who wins and do feel more should participate. People's choices of what they like for games or programs has changed dramaticly over the last 10 years. They prefer the flashy stuff that doen't require a great deal of thinking or work over a program like pdn. The people I have tried to turn on to it never get past the free part. Right away they think it is something bootleg or bad and will harm their computer. Or there is one effect or option that some fancy pay program has that pdn does not so they don't download it,not even to try it. I have found a way to do almost everything that I have wanted so far and keep discovering new things to do all the time.
