pyrochild
Steve Jobs passed away today at 56. We may not exactly be huge Apple fans here but there is no denying that he was a brilliant man and one of the greatest influences in tech. Goonfella
He certainly made Apple the force it is today. Never liked his products but it`s still sad to see him go like that. david.atwell
He was a visionary and creative who had an immeasurable impact upon the design ethos and showmanship of a burgeoning industry - mine. Even though I'm not an Apple fanboy, it's impossible to deny the sway he held over the entire technology world. He made my sector relevant, popular, ubiquitous, and a little quirky. His devotion and drive was an inspiration, too. He famously said, "Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered." It's an important thing to remember that greatness never comes easy, and Jobs made that obvious. He came from humble beginnings, but he ended up running a company with more money than the United States government, and influencing deeply many of the richest and most creative people in the world - John Lasseter, Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg, among others. Not just because of the iProducts his fingerprints are indelibly marked on, but also because of his drive and desire to make the world a better place, we live on a far different planet than he was born into. So long, Steve Jobs. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.
Kemaru
A great innovator and a nice guy. Rest in peace, Jobs, you rocked. midora
Thanks Steve for all the inspiration I got over the years. Started my professional life by creating software for the Newton device long time ago. Let's do devices for the people and not for the engineers. Less is quite often more. W@@dy
I never cared for Apple, but I was rooting for them to put MS on their heels. Let's face it, MS kinda blows chunks when it comes to getting on users' good sides. I'm hoping Apple continues it's trend to either put MS outta business, or more hopefully, make MS realize they need to make a turn around. I never liked Apple's practices as a business, but there's no refuting they have solid, well designed and programmed products. I believe they're products are the epitome of what a product should be. However I completely disagree with the pricing scheme, the excessive patents on basically everything about them, the "planned stylized obsolescence" (as I call it. Meaning they come out with a new product every year to put last years model "out of style"), restrictions on OS installation, payment plans toward artists in iTunes, and so on. They're products are great, easy to use, user friendly, reliable, functional, and safe. That "planned stylized obsolescence" isn't functional obsolescence. My iPod works after 3 years of use. It's only a way to get people to constantly buy their stuff. From a business perspective, their geniuses. Or the consumers are brain dead. I'm still debating as to which it is. In anycase...I'm a little sad to see Steve go. There's no denying he had brilliance. Edited October 7, 2011 by W@@dy
david.atwell
Let's keep this on the topic of Steve Jobs. If you have Apple grievances, air them in the Rants thread or in <offtopic>. Whatever his company has done, Steve Jobs was not necessarily the only mind or even strongest voice behind the decisions made. This thread is meant to be a tribute to a great man, not the mistakes his company may or may not have made. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... Ilke
Well, the guy was a corporate and technological genius after all. RIP. This tribute logo was created by Nineteen-year-old Jonathan Mak, a student at Hong Kong's Polytechnic University School of Design. What's even more awesome is that he got job offers after creating it.
