After watching the Father Ted box set yet again ... 20 years old and the humour is still brilliant, we decided to give Ray Donovan a try

3 episodes in and we're hooked.  So far I'd give it 9/10.  Gritty and great acting ... scary if rich people really do make their problems go away

Season 6 of Ray Donovan ended.

The last ever episode of Luther has been

... and we're a few weeks behind the US for season 6 of The Blacklist.

Might give Escape At Dannemora a try.  Has anyone watched it ?

I agree...the anime adaption of Avatar: The Last Airbender to the big screen was a huge flop.  It was cringe-worthy and deserving of every Raspeberry award conceived.  Edit: I think that's why there some serious reservations to adapting anime to live action.  Look at how Disney have ruined half of its classic animated movies.  I still refuse to watch the abomination called Beauty and the Beast and prefer the animation version, thankyouverymuch.

Can't really be any worse than the Magnum P.I. remake ... oh my gosh what a load of drivel

But then I guess some would say the same about Trailer Park Boys but I'm finding that hilarious

Gutted to watch the last ever Big Bang Theory tonight

Some classic scenes and script writing for the final one.

One of those things that never got stale

Most memorable for me was Howard's peanut allergy - brilliant ... still remember my daughter wetting herself watching it 🤣

I've been a genuine Big Bang Theory fan since it was first shown here in the UK on E4.

It went off quite a bit at the end of Season 7 and much of Season 8 but it was still worth watching and in the last four seasons it got back to something like its old self although they were clearly running out of ideas about where certain characters' storylines were going, Raj in particular. That's when more of the peripheral funny characters like Stuart, Bert the geologist and Zac Penny's ex-boyfriend took up some of the slack.

The inherent drama and comedy potential in Penny and Leonard's relationship was also pretty much torpedoed when they finally got married. However that was successfully replaced by the 'ShAmy' as the primary comedy/drama motor and which I thought still worked well for laughs even after they were married.

TBBT was at its best in the first 6 seasons, the invention, performances, wonderful cameos from some amazing celebrities and, for me, most importantly, the quality of the writing was in another league to most current US sitcoms we see here in the UK.

One of my favourite examples of the great writing it contained was when Leonard and Sheldon wanted to buy some helium for an experiment and found a dodgy dealer online who they arranged to meet at in a car park. In most sitcoms the dodgy dealer would have been a cliched small time crook but the great writing elevated the scene to a first division comedy classic.

There are other scenes peppered throughout TBBT's run  like that, often involving the cameo celebrities (Bob Newhart, James Earl Jones......) and it is why the show was and still is worth watching even in the later seasons when it was not as good as it had been.

Very sad to see it go.

I just finished watching the final season of Orange is the New Black... 😢  (minor spoilers ahead)

This season was more emotionally draining and less fun/sexy than previous seasons for 2 reasons: 1) they're trying to wrap up as many stories as possible, and 2) the stories were ripped from today's headlines.

Many of the stories this season were about people in ICE detention centers.  I had to space out the 13 episodes over a full week as I could only take so much at a time.  My daughter also watched the episodes and said that she normally can easily shake off the effects of a TV show because she understands that it is just fiction.  However, in this case, you just know that what is shown on the screen is MUCH less dramatic than what is happening in real life.  For example, the scenes in ICE detention were less crowded and more clean than what you see on the news.

One of the stories was about a woman in ICE detention who was in jeopardy of losing her kids. She gave an incredible speech to the kids over the phone that had me in tears... and to see how her story unfolded was just heart breaking.  Although her story was left open, you can imagine how it will end.

Also, the story of Lorna setting up a web site for her baby just reminded me of her obsessing over her marriage plans from season 1. Ugh.

It wasn't all downers, however, there seemed to be an equal number of positive stories, such as some of the long term characters taking classes to earn their GED and some characters actually getting out of prison and how they deal with being on the outside... some better than others, obviously.

And, of course, some stories just got me mad, such as the ICE court on Friday's being kid day... ugh! Unbelievable! ...and, yet, you read stories like this in the news.

I was glad to see some of the characters (like Fig, Caputo, Crazy Eyes, Cindy, and Taystee) grow over the course of the show.  The entire cast gave incredible performances.

And, some of the arcs really surprised me (some good/some bad), like CO Luschek, Doggett, Tamika Ward, Piper's dad, and even Pornstash (in a "blink and you'll miss it" scene near the end actually being a good dad to Daya's baby playing musical pots and pans in the kitchen).

I'm actually sad the series is coming to an end. I really feel like I got to know the main characters and there are others I'd really like to follow to the end of their stories.

Do NOT skip the final credits!

Finally, I was also impressed with Netflix for setting up the Poussey Washington fund as a real thing to help women integrate back into society.  Good on you, Netflix! ❤️

Much to the wife's annoyance I've walked in on a few episodes of OITNB but just couldn't get into from the beginning.  She loved it though

BBC has  produced their best series in years with Killing Eve.  Jodie Comer is just fantastic as Villanelle _ I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone who uses BBCi Player

16 hours I'm glad I sat in front of a TV screen for

I finally got around to watching Westworld Season 1...

Wow, brilliant stuff. I’m looking forward to season 2 and beyond.

9/10

I almost danced a jig when I saw the old gun slinger from the original movie in the background of one scene. Nicely done.

I just watched the last episode of The Blacklist season 5... wow! What a twist!  I did not see that coming.

Season 6 was kind of a let down after the exciting conclusion of season 5.  I seriously hope season 7 is better...

I've got to wait until sometime next year for Season 7, but I'm starting to think it may have run it's time.  It was pretty drab at time IMO

Late to the party but we've started watching Weeds.  Very good so far

Also watched all of Shameless UK again.  After watching the original characters, I just can't get into the US remake, although some people say it's better.

Season 2 really well done. S1 & 2 together tell a full story.

I’m not sure where S3 will go, but I’m looking forward to it.
