no magic wand

Hi i am trying to make a transparent image, taking the back ground out of a pic and im following the tutorials and i have no magic wand in my paint.net? can someone help me

It's in the "Tools" window and looks like this: :MagicWandTool:. If you can't see the window, press F5.

Make sure you're using the latest version of Paint.NET, which is v3.5.8.

i cant tell which version i have? when i go to ABOUT PAINT it has my microsoft vista listed.

You're not using Paint.NET at all, then. You're using Paint, which comes with Windows.
