AEN007
10March2011 Greetings. I currently have PaiNET 3.5.2 installed. Today I started to install PaiNET 3.5.8 but cancelled, because the installer did not find/suggest my 3.5.2 install directory. Is this a bug? Do I have to manually uninstall 3.5.2 first? Thanks for PaiNET!
Ego Eram Reputo
No, you shouldn't need to uninstall first. Are you using a custom directory for Paint.NET or the default? What is your method of update (i.e are you using the Utilities > Check for Updates)? AEN007
4April2011 Greetings. Thanks for the reply. I use a custom install directory. I do not use check for updates. I downloaded the 3.5.8 install exe. I disconnect my internet connection when I install PaiNET, because the installer tries to connect to the internet dozens (& dozens) of times ... Most install exes find the current install directory in the registry. Like I said, the PaiNET installer did/does not find/suggest my 3.5.2 install directory... Can I just tell the 3.5.8 installer to use my 3.5.2 directory without uninstalling 3.5.2?
Ego Eram Reputo
If you had used 'check for updates' Paint.Net should have installed to the same directory. As you have downloaded the most recent version, probably your best option is to run the installer and specify the 3.5.2 directory. You shouldn't need to uninstall 3.5.2 first. AEN007
14November2011 Greetings. me again with install issues again ... I want to install PaiNET 3.5.10 onto my USB stick, but the installer will not move past the "select install folder" screen when I specify the/a folder on my USB stick. I have installed a few other unrelated apps/utils onto my USB stick ... for various reasons. Why should/does the PainNET installer not allow installing to my/a USB stick? Rick Brewster
Because when people have done that in the past it has caused all sorts of problems and misery. If you want Paint.NET on a USB stick, you need to install it locally and then copy it to the USB stick. You cannot "install" to a removable media like that. AEN007
25November2011 Greetings. Thanks for the reply (& PaiNET ...) OK ... can I then run uninstall to remove PaiNET from c:\? Uninstall won't remove necessary files from other locations?
